Katya is a Seeker of the Inquisition. The Inquisition is the branch of the Verden Army that combats magic users and is responsible for enforcing King Asgurt's no-magic policy.

It was, however, deemed to be a neccessary evil that the Inquisitors themselves understand and can use magic. Inquisitors are the only people in Verden that are authorized to use magic, and even then, Inquisitors are only allowed to use defensive magics such as wards, barriers, and contra-magic spells.

Given the paranoia surrounding all magic use in Verden, the Inquisition is closely monitored. The Seekers are the military police of the Inquisition, tasked with keeping the Inquisition in line and taking care of contentious internal affairs.

Katya is skilled with contra-magic and warding spells, and she is also a capable swordswoman.

Rank/Title

Katya is an Inspector within the Seekers. She also holds the military rank of Sergeant and can command a unit of men if the need arises. She has a badge that she always carries on her person that validates her authority.

Physical Appearance

Katya has sharp facial features, dark brown eyes, and short-cropped black hair. She stands at about 5'8" (1.73 meters) and weighs about 140 pounds (68 kg).

Personality and interests

Katya takes her job very seriously. She believes that unregulated magic use is extremely dangerous, and that the world would be a better place if magic did not exist. She also believes that all magical creatures are corrupted by their magic and need to be segregated from pure, non-magical humans.

These beliefs create a little bit a paradox for Katya, who is actually quite skilled with certain types of magic. She justifies this with the typical Inquisition argument that the safest way to fight magic users is to use magics that can protect the user from a mage's spells.

History

Katya was raised believing that magic was evil. Fiercly patriotic and also rather combative and fond of fighting, Katya looked forward to joining the Verden Army when she came of age.

Katya discovered how to use magic accidentally when she was 12. Being taught that magic was bad, she kept it a secret from everyone until she accidentally cast a spell on someone when she got in a fight several years later.

Fortunately, the Inquisition in Katya's hometown was rather merciful to Katya, who had opened up about her magic use after the incident. Instead of executing her, as the law technically required, the Inquisition instead offered to train her to be an Inquisitor. She eagerly accepted.

Katya proved to be quite loyal, and she moved through the ranks quickly, eventually becoming a Seeker. She is has now been tasked with recovering the book on necromancy that Sabina Hoyt Habiscus stole to make sure it doesn't get into the wrong hands.

Favourite food

Katya is pretty open-minded when it comes to food, but she really does appreciate a well cooked steak.
