Good morning
Kalena nodded at Oruvand's plan, thinking it a sensible course of action under the circumstances. “I'll go do that now then. You had best be prepared in case he overhears me speaking to the inn keep and tries to make a break for it. As far as you climbing in through a window and us forming a two-man pincer movement on him, perhaps he's actually in a room with no window and we'll have him boxed in with nowhere to go.”
Giving the bounty hunter a parting smile that they could only be so lucky, she left her bow and quiver on her horse and marched over to the front of the Inn, then slipped quietly in through the door. She arrived just in time to witness a posh looking lady produce an ornate dagger and lay it on a table in front of the person that she took to be the proprietor of the establishment. There seemed some kind of confrontation going on between them.
She winced at hearing the words 'dagger' and 'unicorn blood' which evoked cold anger within her. A lover of horses, she would slowly and very painfully cut the heart out of anyone who she saw harming one of those beautiful creatures. She'd only seen a unicorn once in her life and had been overwhelmed by its sheer grace and magnificence; the idea of someone taking a knife to one truly appalled her.
Kalena regarded the woman with a hard look. In her fine, but rumpled garments she appeared to be some little snotty high society type who had sneaked off with a secret beau. And in such great hurry it seemed that she'd forgotten her coin pouch at home and now had to fob off some dubious heirloom to pay for a night's room charge. You met all kinds in dives like this, though Kalena gave the woman a second look upon the slight possibility she could be the killer's female companion Oruvand had mentioned. But no, this was probably just the adulterous wife of some affluent merchant or local noble. Definitely not a slave girl, though she'd certainly fetch a good price on the block.
When there was a chance, Kalena caught the eye of the Inn Keeper and discreetly waved the woman over, a tall, grimy thing who it was clear did not take much pains when it came to appearance. She noted however the shrewd and worldly eyes the woman had, the sort of eyes that rarely missed a thing, and instantly she decided on her approach: blunt and utterly forthright.
“Good morning,” Kalena said cheerfully, resting an arm on the counter in a casual manner and keeping her voice low. “I'm working with the local Sheriff's office. Now I don't wish to alarm you, but I assume you were blissfully unaware that one of your current guests is wanted for the brutal slayings of at least nine men, and several other serious crimes against the Crown. This would be the half-elf, with the black hair and green eyes that checked in late yesterday night. According to the Sheriff's man who tracked him here, he's presently in the company of a young woman, possibly a slave. If you would be so kind as to identify to me the room that he's staying in and exactly where it's located, we'll take him into custody and be on our way.”
Her pleasant mask turned hard, deadly serious. “The last thing I want to do is threaten you, but if you do not cooperate, and this man should escape, I'm sure you can imagine what the consequences would be. Her Majesty the Queen is not known for her mercy. And trust me, you would really rather deal with us than the army. The local garrison commander is a borderline psychopath, and would in all-likelihood raze this place to the ground and take you to a tree out back and hang you up by your own intestines. So, it's in all our best interests that you give us your full cooperation until the fugitive is captured or killed.”
OOC: Wow! 44 posts since my last one yesterday. No wonder it felt like reading a whole chapter in a novel lol.
aasully: Stranger Things is wonderful. It's scary, but not super scary. The second series is going to be released in another week or so. The OA is weird and artsy, and a bit challenging, but you might want to give it a try too. And there is also all the Marvel shows like Daredevil.
Btw, if anyone wants to collaborate on a story or just brainstorm ideas feel free to drop me an email any time if you'd like.
