Into the Darkness - Part One

---- Snip ----Deep in Amber's body her nanos were getting beaten, the more theytried to assault the invading force, the more the were pushed back.They sent out a cry for help, a simple SOS on all frequencies that
their host was dying, was being eaten from the inside out by a forceunknown to them. There were two sets of nanos that picked up on thedistress signal, an electrical impulse. The nanos belonged to JackFeBuggure and John Keats, the two people cringed as their nanos
pulled on their consciousness and sucked it inwards......---- End Snip ----Floating through space, the huge shape of the JMC Blue Dwarf, now technically a Freelance warship, silent throughout, even in the only true pub in existence. Those that had managed to bring themselves to go there were drowning their sorrows, not doing much more than drinking slowly, or throwing abuse at Jay.
One of the only people not doing that, was Jack FeBuggure, who was more worried about things to come. Most of the people on Earth had escaped, heading outwards to make small settlements, and hope the Hymenoptera wouldn't find them. Jack sighed, and emptied the rest of his glass, the first beer he'd had in almost a year. He had no idea how Jay felt about what had happened, or Amber at that, or even if she was feeling herself yet. Getting up, he wandered out of Parrotts, on a trip fueled by love for his niece. Jack doubled over and clutched his head as his nano's went wild. He collapsed in the hall. When he opened his eyes he was greeted with a strange sight. He was in an open landscape, twisted and black. A large lake surrounded him, the small landmass he was stood on was one of a number of similar islands, each with something dark and twisted on them. The water was black, and it was dark, the little light there was had a reddish hue to it. Amber appeared out of the mist that clung to the ground.
  "Who are you? Where are we?" She growled, her eyes two black holes of evil.  "Amber?" He began, watching her walk slowly towards him, her eyes pitch black. "It's me... Jack..." he began, watching for a reaction from her. After a few seconds, he looked around. "And I have no idea where we are either... but I do know I was on my way to ask you if you were up for that drink I promised."   "I don't remember you..... You can ask me all you want. Come find me in the Brig. The bastards locked me up. I don't even know this ship! What did they do with Lord Chrysler! If they killed him I'll..." Amber broke down into a string of angry Hymenopterran and glanced around at her surroundings. "This place is familiar, but it's not supposed to look like this..." A small bush nearby suddenly sprung into flower, pretty blossoms that looked out of place in the twisted landscape. Amber scowled as them and kicked at the bush scattering the flowers.
  "The only place I know that looks like this... is..." Jack thought out loud, thinking back to their trip through the sea of Dirac inside The Gun(TM) all that time ago."You may not remember me, but you do know me." He said, "and Jay is fine, but he's no longer 'Emperor Chrysler'.  He's back to being the Jay he was before all of this happened." he added, watching her beat the bush into the ground.  He sat down on the grass.  "You know... The Hymenoptera destroyed your home." he said, watching her continue to beat the bush as new flowers bloomed every few seconds.
  "I have no home. I have nothing to do with that scum sucking planet Earth. I'm glad it's gone, we are closer to achieving our goals. All humans will perish." Amber gave up on the bush, her bruised face twisted as if she was trying to remember something. She glared at Jack and sat down. "I don't remember my past."
  "Why are you so nice to me? I could rip your throat out if I wanted to. They'll never let me out. Especially to someone like you." As Amber said this she reached out and grabbed Jack by the neck. She squeezed on his windpipe, but couldn't kill him, the part of her wanting to know her past was curious. A tree nearby sprouted some leaves and the moon came out from behind the clouds. Jack didn't do anything to stop her as she held him.  
  "I'm nice to you because you have a place in my heart, at least... the real you does" Jack said as she let go of him, and let him fall back to the ground.  He looked up at her, and smiled "I know you're in there somewhere, and I want to help you get that back, to help you find what the hymenoptera took from you." he said, "If you'll let me that is." he added, and stood up, walking slowly to the edge of the lake, which was still black as the night sky above it, as black as Amber's eyes.
  "This IS me! This is who I have become!" A pulse traveled over the landscape, rippling the image. The knowledge of Amber's condition came into Jack's head. The object, placed in her mind by Evil Phil all those months ago back on Plebe when she made a psychic link with him. The knowledge came to Amber, and she remembered talking to Keto about it. "Dr. Keto.... He told me there was no hope and he was right! I drugged him so he forgot about it."
  "There's one thing that you've taught me, and that's never to give up.  Never say there's no hope, there will always be hope as long as you still stand on your own feet." Jack said, his own nano's working on trying to figure out what it was that was lodged inside her head, but with no luck.  "And no, this isn't you. it may be what you've become, but its not the real you.  The real you doesn't give up." He said, looking into her eyes, the black mist clouding them completely.  Jack didn't know of anything to do, he wasn't a doctor, and had only been one for a few moments of his life.  Now there was no chance of being that again, not since the Science room that was once his had been destroyed.
  "What have I got to live for on this festering rust-bucket of a ship? You are all miserable flesh bags." She spat. The view rippled again and Amber felt like she had been stabbed in the heart. "..... Who's John?"
  "John? he's closer to you than I've ever been... " He began, "he's your husband." Jack said, watching her reaction, while his Nano's continued to do their work. Albeit slowly.  "I wouldn't marry! Who could love a reptilian Bliss addict like me?" More memories returned to her. "You all hate me for what I've done in the past."
  "Some may hate you for what you've done in the past, but now i know it wasn't your choice, that thing in your head is doing it..." he said, "and anyway, i never hated you." he said, "but you did marry, if you see him soon, you'll remember" he added, taking the opportunity that presented itself while Amber was deep in thought to put his arm around her.  "I've never told you before, but you're my favourite niece." he added.
"Leave me alone." Amber whispered. She suddenly swung around throwing Jack's arm off her. "Get out of my head!" She screamed hysterically.  "I may be gone for now, but there's no way you can get rid of me completely." Jack said, watching her storm off into the mist that she appeared from before.  "Stay strong...." Jack said quietly.  
Moments later, he opened his eyes, and got up off the cold metal floor slowly, he rubbed his neck, feeling the marks Amber had left when she tried to strangle him.    "Stay strong..." he said again, over Amber's normal frequency, hoping it would get past the darkness that had come forward since she had been on New Ibiza.
