Back on the mining shuttle Idwal pulled John into the cockpit and sealed the door shoving John so he saw the scanner. John had heard Amber's voice on the comms, but didn't know that she thought he was dead. He watched as the Blue Midget with his best friend and his wife on it crashed into the large metal object and exploded in a ball of hot white flame.

"Two ships down!" growled Idwal as he fought to keep the Frieghter steady in the aftershock of the collision with the Blue Midget. "Looks like we're the only show in town!"
Keat's didn't reply his whole being was focussed on the explosion that they both assumed had consumed Amber and Jack.  Keats began to mutter under his breath.  Idwal sensed it was a long stream of very volatile invective.  Finally Keats erupted.
"Sons of bitches!  The scummy mothers are going to regret this big time!"  He slammed another weapons charge into the blaster and flicked the power up.  "And the first S.O.B. to have its ass fried if down below!"  And with that he was out and away.  Idwal concentrated on the frieghter and soothed it into a stabilised flight then he turned to the comms.  Nothing but waves of static and then he saw he had lost the alien ship . He had thought it was about loop around  intent on another pass through the three ships.  But now Idwal noticed that it was headed for a huge and menacing shape that had apparently loomed out of nowhere. "What the?" began Idwal as the onboard computer chimed in with.
"I think you ought to know that a planetoid mass has been detected 400 parasecs off the port bow."
"Like your twenty seconds too late!" snarled Idwal as he attempted to heave the lumbering frieghter up round and away from a mass that looked like it had bad karma written all over it.
