Lovely
Who: Cerebrum
Where: Psychiatric offices
Cerebrum was busy working in his office, analyzing some psychological
profiles, when the wall burst in and flooded the room up to his
waist. He was fairly busy, and he had been taking concentration
drugs, so didn't notice what had happened until the Eniram who came
into the room stuck a harpoon into his face.
"Surrender or die! Human," he/she/it (Cerebrum wasn't quite sure)
demanded.
"In a minute. I'm busy," Cerebrum replied, still typing on his
computer. It was a very interesting psychological profile. A bit of
work on it and he might make the cover of the next Psychiatric
Monthly.
"No! Surrender now!" it shouted again.
"In a minute, in a minute," Cerebrum said as he finished up typing,
then saved the file and turned to the Eniram. "Now, what can I do for
you?"
"Surrender or die!"
"I'm a psychiatrist, a noncombatant. I'm not exactly a threat. And
how come you can understand english."
"Universal translators."
"Isn't that a bit farfetched?"
"It saves the tedious trouble of spending months trying to figure out
your language."
"Fair enough."
"Now, surrender or die!"
"Now, tell me why you have this obsession with capturing prisoners or
killing people."
"It's my orders."
"Why do you blindly follow orders?"
"Because their orders."
"Lovely," Cerebrum said, "Why don't you lie down on the couch, and we
can discuss this," as he produced his notebook and pencil, "We must
understand the basics of your psyche so we can understand what drives
you to do what you do."
