Lt. Jason Smegg - "What IS that thing?!"
>The large black ship got closer to the ship, blocking the light from the
system's yellow star and casting a dark spiney
>shadow over the ship's hull.
The red android with the golden ponytail lunged toward the
echidna-creature with his Z-Saber, ready to decapitate his oppenent. But
Knuckles turned, saw the threat, and quickly spun into a spin dash before
Zero could harm him and slammed into the android at full speed, hitting a
critical spot and penetrating the android's armor. Zero screamed and
exploded in a shower of blue sparks.
"Damn!" Lt. Smegg swore. He'd designed "20th Century Video Game Sidekick
Wars" himself (he didn't have a penchant for conciseness, but then, what
engineer did?), and still he couldn't beat the first level, even playing
as Zero. (Luigi was really the first opponent, but he didn't count, he
was a pushover.)
Then a call came over the intercom. "Sir, this is Spaceman Peter
Jabronsky reporting; there's something strange going on here!"
The lieutenant finally realized how annoying it sounded when he made a
report like that. "Well, Jabronsky, WHAT is going on here?!"
"Well sir, I thought I'd tell you, there's a big ship out there. It looks
kind of threatening. Hope those guns we installed work. That's all, sir."
A big ship? This ship was the biggest thing since... well, who knows? But
Smegg looked to the window. Sure enough, there weren't any stars. He
hadn't been paying attention while playing the game. Either that ship was
ramming the Blue Dwarf or it was REALLY big. If that thing attacked...
those puny guns probably wouldn't scratch it. The lieutenant considered
alerting the captain, but figured the sensor operator probably detected
the ship first before Jabronsky, it wasn't cloaked or anything, and
besides, what _could_ the captain do? The commander was on the planet,
though; the ship probably came from there so he would already know about
it.
This ship looks REALLY big...
