"Well, that took care of itself, even though I didn't get a blackmail
opportunity," Cerebrum said to the Appendix while placing Joe's file
in a file cabinet. "Now, I've seen the amount of people outside
waiting for an appointment and decided that there's something we
really need to keep the number of patients to a managable."
"More psychiatrists? A secretary to handle appointments and arrange
the time schedule?" asked the Appendix.
"No, a trap door right outside the door, and one right inside the
door. Go down to engineering later and have them put them in. Have
engineering link them up to buttons and put the buttons on a control
panel on my desk."
Cerebrum then stood up and opened the door and announced to the crowd
outside, "We're slightly busy right now, so just leave your name and
problem in the basket right over there and we'll get to you as soon
as possible."
As the crowd left, Cerebrum took the basket and went back
inside. "Okay, Appendix, get down to engineering. After you've done
that, take the latest copy of the Psychiatric Monthly and order all
the equipment we don't have. Bill it to the medical department, or
the security department if the medical budget doesn't cover the bill."
As the Appendix left, Cerebrum sat down at his desk, placed the
basket it on it and applied a scientific procedure for determining
who should be treated first. He closed his eyes and randomly pulled
out a name.
