joe's therapy session continues

Joe, Cerebrum and the Appendix were now in the new psychiatric offices, a
queue of people stood outside waiting to be seen.
Joe had recounted his tales of his life before joining the Blue Dwarf,
Cerebrum had been particularly interested in the story of Joe and the
despair squid (who knows, it may one day appear in the new section of the
BDT), that was the obvious reason for Joe’s depression. It may have been
when the problem started but it didn’t seem to be the root of the problem.
“I can sense that there’s still something that your not telling us Joe” said
(or thought) the Appendix
“I’m getting that feeling too” said Cerebrum
“Well, there is something, but I’ve never told anyone about it before, I’m
not sure i..if..i can” Joe started weeping quietly.
“It’s ok, you can tell us anything, we have a strict patient confidentiality
code here” said Cerebrum.
“I…i…. C..can’t” Joe managed to say
“It’s ok” thought the Appendix “We’re here for you”
“ok….I’..I’m a ..g..g..”
“A girl” finished Cerebrum, “It’s ok, a lot of people have sex changes these
days”
“No, that’s not it” said Joe “I’m a Gelf!!!”
Cerebrum gasped and the Appendix if at all possible looked shocked.
“My parents wanted me to have perfect vision, so they had me genetically
modified, but something went wrong and that’s why my eyes are weird.”
“Hmmm, interesting” said Cerebrum, rubbing his chin thoughtfully “You know,
you would probably feel much better if the whole crew knew about this, but
that’s something you’ll have to decide yourself”
“BING BONG” said Holly from the ship-wide tanoy system “Attention all crew
members, Joe Schweeble is a Gelf, I repeat, Joe Schweeble is a Gelf”
Holly’s face appeared on the vid screen “Oops, sorry dudes, it just slipped
out”
Joe broke down again and ran out of the room, the queue outside all moved
out of the way very quickly, giving Joe looks of, disgust, fright, sympathy
and worry all at the same time.
