Game Over, Man!
The pain had left Dirk's hand. He was now running over the data that he had
collected from the beasts that had attacked earlier. "Odd. Very odd. I've
never seen anything like this." An idea struck him. The team needed a warning
system for when they were attacked again(there was no doubt in his mind that
another attack was eminient). He made adjustments on his tricorder to register
the bio signals of the monsters. He could tell if they were as close as 50
yards(the radiation from the wreckage and explosion was jamming the signal).
Hours later, as the team rested and ate, Harris attempted to call the other away
team. The radio signals were also being jammed. Smegg and Dirk were discussing
the "proto event," as they called it, and keeping Keto away from them. A
beeping sound came from Dirk's tricorder. He picked it up and examined the
display. "Guys! I've got good news and bad news. We're being surrounded by
those creatures that attacked us earlier."
"What's the good news?" Keto asked.
"That it. That was the good news." When Dirk had said this, Keto almost
fainted. "The bad news is that I'm reading at least a dozen of them."
Harris and his securtiy goons snapped up their weapons. "Which way are they
coming from?"
"Over there. To the north, just behind those trees." More beeping sounds.
"There's some to the east, to past the blast area." Even more beeps. "A small
group's coming from the west." Yet more beeps. Dirk's eyes widened as he
watched the little blinking lights multiply on the screen. "They're everywhere.
They're all around us. They're coming from all over the place. I count at
least eighteen."
A sudden feeling of gloom fell over the group. Dirk pulled his gun from his JMC
jacket. If he was going to die, he'd do it like a real man: with his hat and
boots on and fighting like he was on a 'roid rage.
A large pack of the monsters came rushing at them from the north. Harris and
his men began to mow them down, but the things kept coming. "We don't have a
fighting chance!" yelled Harris. "You gotta find us a way out."
Dirk looked at his screen while still ready to fire his gun at a second's
notice. "There seems to be a gap just over there." He pointed to some trees
behind them.
"Let's go for it!" Harris pushed Kayn in the direction of the forrest as
everyone else sprinted for the trees.
The group reached the treeline. Dirk examined his beeping tricorder. "Smeggin'
hell! It's an ambush." The beasts came out from behind some trees and towards
them. "In the trees. It's our only option." They began to climb. Dirk helped
Keto up yet another tree when he noticed one of the monsters was heading
straight towards him. He turn and ran. The first tree he saw with a low enough
branch, he jumped on. He was pulling himself up when a set of claws raked his
right leg. "SHIT!" Dirk pulled himself up to a higher branch an looked at his
leg. The wound was minor. It just hurt like hell. "Those were new pants, you
bastard!" he yelled at the beast at the foot of the tree. Then Dirk noticed
something. The tree he had climbed was very old, and very dead. The ape thing
started to pound on it, and it was giving way.
Dirk needed to get out of that tree. He had made his way pretty high up, so a
fall would render him either dead or completely helpless, which would make him
dead. He remembered that his jacket had a repelling line in the sleeve. He
pulled it out and gave himself some slack. He did his best Indiana Jones and
tossed the line to a branch on a nearby tree. When he saw that it was tight, he
Tarzaned himself off the branch. "Take that, you smeghead!" he yelled as he
gave the symbolic gesture of the extended middle finger.
When he turned around, he noticed that the tree was coming very close, very
fast. He had no way to slow down nor no where to land. Dirk hit the tree hard.
His vision was blurry and he felt blood trickle down his forehead into his left
eye. He was hanging by his right arm thirty feet in the air. Blackness
overcame him.
OOC-anyone else want to talk about what happened to their characters during the
attack.
