Bell's revenge
Dirk wasn't having a good day at all. Schweeble had taken him on a ride on some
robot arachnid, now he had been pushed down the stairs for some horrible game
that belonged to Stone. He had definitely become sober now. He picked himself
up and stomped back up the stairs.
"I HAVE TWO THINGS THAT I WANT MADE CLEAR! I DON'T CARE IF YOU ARE MY
COMMANDING OFFICER OR NOT! I WILL BE HEARD! ONE! THAT DAMN GAME IS STONE'S,
NOT MINE! I DON'T HAVE A SMEGGIN' THING TO DO WITH THAT VAMPIRE CRAP! AND
TWO...!" The feeling of calm that had come over Dirk from destroying the
pimpbot had long since vanished and was replaced by his ill-temper once again.
It had grown to the point that he no longer cared what happened. He reared back
and punched Phil in the face as hard as he could, sending the hologram to floor.
"SEE HOW BIG AND BAD YOU ACT WITH A BLACK EYE!" Then, Dirk remembered that
punching a hologram won't give it a black eye.
Tara ran to Phil, who was sitting upright in shock, immediately to help him up.
Dirk walked away feeling unsatisfied. Giving a guy a black eye was a badge of
humiliation and a warning to other people, but no one would see either.
Dirk returned to his room. He remembered that it was this sort of thing that
got him shipped off his comfy posts on Earth to the Blue Dwarf. When he first
arrived, he was afraid of making a bad impression and getting sent to an even
worst post. Now, he realized that there weren't any posts worse than this. So
why even bother holding in those frustrations and risking a heart-attack when he
could just let them go. But he was still upset about not giving Phil a
black-eye.
An idea came to him. White Wolf had placed a computer terminal in his room
exactly like the one locked in the science bay. He could do the same things
with the one in his room as in the science bay. Now, he could cloak all his
activities and freely search and alter the ship's software. Dirk went to work
immediately. He found the hologram programs and, with a lot of work and dodging
security measures, was able to alter Phil's light structure to produce a black
eye over the same one that Dirk's right hand had connected with just a few hours
earlier. It was quite possible that the computer program would also, through
conclusions made by its logic circuits, reproduce the physical sensations felt
by such a blow and last as long as a real black-eye on a living person would.
There was also another possible side effect. Since ships are only programed to
support one hologram at a time, any other holograms who tap into the same
computer system could also download the same black-eye.
Holly appeared on his screen. "What do you think you're doing? That's against
regulation."
"Quiet, Holly!"
"I SHOULD turn you in."
"SHOULD? Something tells me that you won't."
"I will! Unless you tell me a three letter abbreviation ending in "S" for a
film term for a not recording sound during filming. I bet you can't. And if
you don't, I'm going straight to Niples."
"MOS."
"MOS? Where do you come up with such bunk?"
"MOS. Mitout sound. Comes from German filmmakers in.......OH! To hell with the
explaination! MOS!"
"mos? Okay! It fits. Don't know where you came up with it? But you're safe
for know. But if I find out that it's wrong, it's straight to Niples." Holly
disappeared. Dirk pushed his enter button and launched his program.
ooc- just to warn everyone. don't tick dirk off. he just doesn't care about
