Insider Information

<ooc> unfortunately, Xan, your post has come a bit late, and things have moved on. Still, it makes for a decent backpost at the time of the action. I'll do my best to reference it.</ooc>

Tooled up for as much war as they could level against a hard-light hologram, Jamie and Jay stalked the corridors of the resort, keeping their eyes open for trouble.

"Jaxx and his holo-whips would be useful about now... Even if they can only stun Tara as she is, it's still an advantage we could do with." Jamie said, a length of pipe in his hand.

"Agreed. I don't even know where those whips are right now." was the reply. The only man in the universe with a legitimate Jesus complex had found himself a handgun, and in a holographic resort it was loaded with special Tazer rounds, at least enough to give Tara something to think about if she hung around that long.

"That Magna-gun or whatever Artemis called it isn't going to be much use either if we can't track down the target." Jamie had become a little jumpy since the psychic link cut off like it had been with Cass unconcious. Yes, it was back now and Cass seemed to be ok, it had almost become something he was used to. "I bet you're glad Cass is going to be ok, though."

"Of course I am. I'm glad everyone is ok, after what's happened so far." Jay remarked.

"True. Tara could have done much worse already."

!!!!!

"Shit. Medical lab." Jamie said, and instinctively dived into the nearest vent. Waiting to explain to Jay would take too long, and running through the corridors wasn't fast enough. Their attempted plans to track down Tara had at least given Jamie a bit of knowledge about the ventilation system on the station, and he was now sliding through the vent he believed would take him directly to the medical lab where Cass and Jade were.

<snip>
“Please give the medical lounge a wide berth. It’s about to get messy.”
</snip>

Was that in my head, or my ears?

It wasn't long before there was an ear piercing scream. It didn't take any thought to realise it wasn't from Cass' mind, and with a grunt of effort, Jamie slid faster and faster along the vent, until he fell through the grating and into the medical lab. The grille hit the ground with a resonating clang, and was shortly followed by a deft thunk of well-worn boots.

He looked up to see Jade's arm hit the ground, and the laser cutter turning around for the motors to get a clean movement on the next strike. From his crouched position, he put as much force as he could into the leap, flinging himself through the air towards the laser cutter and medical robot.

The laser beam arced towards Jade again, this time heading for her midriff. Adrenaline poured through everyone; but instead of more burning flesh, smoking metal filled the room. The metal bar Jamie was still holding began to melt, taking a bit longer for the laser to get through than skin & bone. In a matter of nanoseconds, the tip of the laser was pointing directly where Jade's surgery scar had been. The lens on the laser itself had shattered before it got there, and the housing was covered in rapidly cooling steel, the metal bar having melted into it. A faint red light emanated from the laser housing, completely harmless without the lenses to focus it into a medical laser.

Jamie's momentum took him past Jade, and onto the floor next to Cass, who was gripping her own hand like it was burned.

At that point, the door whooshed open as Jay broke through the override controls, just in time to see Jamie wrestling with a medical robot, and putting Jade down carefully on the floor.

"I'm sorry. I wasn't fast enough to save your arm." Jamie said, his hand twitching where the metal pole he had used as a weapon had almost chemically bonded to his skin. blisters were all over his palm from the heat, but at least he had got there before any more damage could be done.

<Tag. Heroic entrance, and adrenaline to help ignore the pain of a very burnt hand. Laser heated steel will do that. In case my wording isn't clear, the laser was broken before it started doing any more cutting. I just opted for the more dramatic description.>
