Auguries of Innocence or Angels and Alexs

Part 1. <Written with a thick head, sorry!>

In a smooth ethereal movement, The Angel gave Shark Boy a dip of his head, and offered him and Mech Girl a kindly smile.
"Dear shark, there is nothing to fear. I believe your good lady's love for me to be only the same as your own." His eyes crinkled good naturedly "Spiritual love. The wonderful love for other beings." He explained.
Shark Boy chuckled, a little embarrassed.
"Not being mean or stuff, you're cool and all." He rubbed the back of his neck. "... but I like totally don't love y-" The Angel flashed him another smile - this one of such benign magnificence that the super-shark's sentence tailed off into a murmur.
The white-wing touched his arm. "I love you too, Guardian of the Ocean." And with that he moved away to ponder awhile, as Angels and Alexs tend to.

<snip>"Hey Alex..." Jade piped up, trying to get the attention of the angel...His wings outstretched, one knee on a box and a thoughtful expression on his face.</snip>

Alex had noticed the ladies of the group talking, his angel-empathy and man-sense telling him they likely spoke of heartache. Jade appeared somewhat forlorn and it pained him greatly; The sadness was like a shadow over his own heart.
I am so very sorry for the pain my man-self has caused you, beautiful Earth-child. He wanted to scoop the little doctor up and wrap her in his wings. Except he mustn't, for he wouldn't always have wings...

I will not always be this way, and it would not be in her interest for me to inflict my... He searched for an appropriately kind term, Angels were kind even to themselves. ... Unfortunately less enlightened... self upon her he mused, missing her touch and company as much as he supposed she did his.

He realised he should answer her call, and turned around, to his horror accidentally knocking her into the goo with a clumsy wing.
"We-ell, it was her turn anyway." Someone chuckled, clearly enjoying the slapstick.

During Jade's time in the pit, The Angel was further pained to hear the poor thing had lost a child. She'd mentioned a child but had never told him that part.

After he and King Kong had retrieved the transformed woman from the gloop (and he'd gently told her she was still lovely - a Jade by any other form), Jamie entered and changed into a glorious golden man of Iron. It was most impressive.
On his landing, The Angel beamed at the glimmering being and placed a hand on his shoulder. "My friend, we shall fly together."

Soon The Ubermensch began discussing his belief in Science, and the Angel told him of his belief that science, humanity and spirituality were one and the same.
There was nothing harsh or argumentative in his tone, only pure, earnest, belief. Plisken the White nodded from his nearby perch, every now and then interjecting between puffs on a wizardly pipe he'd acquired from... Where had he acquired it from!? As the wizard commented, The Angel noticed the elder's voice was slightly changed in his current form, and to hear it made him smile. He squeezed the bearded fellow's arm, granting him a heartfelt look which conveyed true comradeship and appreciation. Plisken took a deep gratified breath as a cool sense of contentment washed through him.

Alex attempted a similar gesture of sincerity and friendship with The Ubermensch but unfortunately, as he was invisible to him, it just caused the other man to jump.
"Lanky Locks! What are you playing at!?"
"My apologies, dearest Artemis. I merely wish you well."

Then he turned to their leader who, thankfully, could see him. Perhaps because he was Jaysus Chryst.
"My brother priest, whom I love dearly, may I take you to my bosom?" He asked in his mild, smooth tones.
"Uhm... What?"
Before Jay could answer yea or nay, the ethereal embraced him with affection, clearly meaning it with every fibre of his being. His actions contained no irony, just true appreciation.

"Er... Okay." Said the natural-born leader, clearing his throat. "Isn't this a bit gay?" He added laddishly, knowing full well it was not meant in that way at all.
He tried to retain an air of cool but of course melted into the Angel's adoring arms and relaxed as he felt a great wave of inner peace break over him.
As The Angel pulled away Jay noticed that he displayed no sign of embarrassment himself, such things were currently of little importance to him.
"Why yes, I am feeling gay..." He replied, turning and gesturing around at the others "By which I mean that I am happy to have you all as my comrades and companions. We have lost much, but we have Found one another. Thank you, my good friends."
Some of the others were, momentarily, gobsmacked. However, any snarky or sarcy or awkward feelings were soon washed away when they realised there were none from him, and how innocent, and sincere the words were.

Tregaurd blinked, almost getting caught up in the warmth again, then chuckled.
"Well, erm, yes. Enough of the niceties, I believe it is the Priest's turn to transform..."

<Jay then got into the gloop and ____ ... He'll fill in the details soon.>

Then Mr D was announced, he entered and gave them all inspirational, snappy pep talks, before sending them out into the destined-to-be-epic, pre-Boss, multi-creatured battle.

As they headed onto the field, the words Mr D had spoken to him and Black Jade echoed through Alex's otherwise clear and peaceful mind:

<snip>"Who are you to be ordinary? You who can transcend life or raise the dead."
"Who are you to be afraid? You who can serve as judge and jury while hording infinite lives."</snip>

As they passed through the door he gave what passed for a hand at the bottom of Jade's tendril a friendly squeeze - his Angel self was above such things as awkwardness and avoidance. The plant portions trembled slightly, as his healing touch sent a welcome wave of well-being through her.

"To see a World in a Grain of Sand,
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower..." he found himself reciting. It was an old William Blake poem he'd heard a couple of times as a kid, somehow it'd lodged itself into his subconscious.
"... Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour..."

He wasn't sure what the resulting planty expression meant.
"Do not be afraid" he told her, entirely certain she could protect herself with her retractable spikes, yet wanting to reassure her anyway.
With her human hand she pointed skywards. He followed the finger to see an airborne Shark Boy and Mech Girl fighting several winged dinosaurs and cavemen, they battled with skill and seemed to have things under control, but heading towards them was a large dragon. He nodded at the plant-lady.

"I know what I must do."
He beat his wings and flew up to meet the fiery foe.

There was a strangled cry and the ground-based Uber-Dwarfers moved wisely from the path of Black Jade. The hybrid creature had just sent fearsome roots deep into the ground which had rapidly spread through the earth, orbiting her with wriggly gnarly tendrils. With some of the roots she took effortless hold of several zombies, in what appeared to be a super strong grasp, lifting them from the ground with ease as her roots wrapped tightly around them.

"Good job!" Cried The Iron Man with zest, giving a double thumbs up as he swooped past on his way to discover the foes he was destined to fight.

Notes.

i) Great idea on the Uber characters Artie! It means we get to explore our characters and also have cheeky fun playing as kinda Mary Sue types for a while, in a tongue in cheek non-obnoxious way. Excellent!

ii) I think it'd be fun if we temporarily changed our avatars to suit our AR uber-characters. I see Plisken's has already changed to an excellent Plisken the White :D
