(Blue Dwarf) Frank Harris 'Enough's enough'
Blue Dwarf
Security office
Harris sat down into his chair and it squeaked loudly, his just groaned and pulled the small oilcan he swiped from engineering and started to oil his chair. He gave the chair seat a shake and the squeak was gone, for now.
Harris put away the oil can and settled back into his chair. A bloody ship the size of a city and he still couldn't find a chair that didn't squeak without having to be oiled.
The Major stabbed at the ON button of the termal that sat on his desk and after a few snarls of getting 'does not compute' he finally managed to get into the files of the new crewmembers that had finally been downloaded into the mainframe. He wanted to see who he had 'welcomed' aboard and then assigned to Donover for a tour around the ship.
He went to the first name on the list - Larry Rongside, the new chief science officer that was replacing that Gelf, Mahok Yolandon. The Major was more then happy to see that the Lieutenant was 30 years old and not just another snot right out of the academy. What did catch the Major eye's was that he had a history of ship jumping and never really lasted a month on any ship.
Next on the list was Phil FeBuggure, a damn hardlight hologram. Harris just skipped ahead, believing FeBuggure would turn out better then Faith Garrison did, its' amazing the damage done to a hologram's lightbeam by a electromagnet. Harris just grinned evilly to himself and was thankful to be rid of that digital ghost that was more trouble then she was worth.
Steev MackEnzyyyyyyy, no that can't be right, must be Mackenzy, the new assistant engineering officer. A 23 year old ensign, four years over Smegg. He was noted for his flashes of inspiration and genius, that and he was usually found in a left-luggage locking after having a panic attack.
Last on the list was Kieran Loes, a another 23 year old ensign that was take up the post as chief navigation officer and as a pilot. Great another flyboy like Nipels. What really creeped Harris out about Loes was that he was always trying to better himself, well, that was how he saw it. Now there was something rare among the JMC.
Only four new crewmembers taking up key positions on the ship, he would swear that there would be more. Mainly because he wanted someone to fill the gap in the chain of command between himself and Nipels. As if the Commander was to leave the ship for some reason or rendered incapable of command, he would have to take over command of the Blue Dwarf since the Captain was nothing more then joke. Harris was a security officer, not a command officer.
Harris chain of throught was interrupted when Jill appeared on screen and said. "Ay up, David."
"What do you want?" Harris snapped.
"You appointment to see Prue is for tomorrow." Jill informed the Major.
"Who the hell is Prue?" Harris demanded.
"The ship's councillor, her name is Prue Simmons." Jill answered.
"What sort of name is Prue?" Harris muttered.
"It's short." Jill explained. "For Prudence. You didn't know what her name was?!"
"There was no name plate on the officer door and I never asked her name. Why the hell am I telling you this!?" Harris snapped.
"Because out of everyone on the ship you talk to me the most." Jill answered. "Do you know what I think?"
"We're both two thirds deranged." Harris snapped.
"I said what, not how." Jill said.
"What do you think?" Harris asked dreading the answer.
"I think you two make a cute couple." Jill said.
"You WHAT!!" Harris snapped.
"Oh, come on Darren, when was the last time you went on a date?" Jill asked him.
"Get knotted." Harris told Jill harshly.
"Dave, live a little." Jill told him. "Just ask her out for dinner."
"Jill." Harris started. "Remember what I did to Garrison."
"Yes." Jill answered quietly.
"I will do the same thing to you if you got SHUT UP!!" Harris almost yelled.
"Sorry." Jill said just before she disappeared off screen.
Prison would heaven compared to this, a useless captain, a chief engineer that got on his nerves, a security force that was the biggest collection of loonies and trouble magnets he ever had the misfortune to command and a deranged computer trying to fix him up.
"That's it!" Harris said and then turned on the ship's internal com. "Harris to Jackson!"
"Yes Major Harris sir?" Jackson replied over the com.
"I'm going aboard the facility." Harris informed the sergeant. "You're in charge till I get back."
"Yes Major Harris sir." Came over the com.
