Once inside the bay, their eyes were drawn to the slumped body of Gomez on the floor.
"Oh God." Alex rushed over to him, ignoring a tilt-headed look from the baby. He felt for a pulse then shook his head. He felt sick to his stomach - Gomez had been his friend. He could see that Gomez had been building or repairing something before he died, he was just trying to muster the heart to mention this, when the baby started laughing...

"Well 'ello little fella...." came a gruff voice, the child was being picked up by a large simulant, whom none of the crew had seen before.
"Drop the kid!" Jay snapped raising his rifle.
"NOW!" Katrina added.
Garr Bedge didn't respond and started bouncing the child on his knee.
"I SAID DROP HIM!"
..."Possibly a bad choice of words..." Seymour pointed out helpfully.
"Oh relax, human scum." Garr said, finally responding "We're just playing, aint we little fella..."
"...also..." said Cass "Theres the small matter that that's NOT YOUR SMEGGING SON!"
"And what would you know?" Katrina snapped "I'd know my son anywhere!"
"Ok, so explain this....how the hell would he get here? YOu said yourself he was in stasis back at HQ!"
"Another STCP plot.." Jay murmered "I wouldn;t put it past them...would you Kitty?" Cass grimaced at Jays use of Salter's pet name.
"No..." replied Katrina "I wouldn't put anything past them anymore..."
"He came through the same smegging portal as my father! And your sister Jay! Think about it! You're smarter than this!"
"If he WAS the doombringer.." Alex said "He's sure enjoying himself..."
Max was giggling uncontrollably as Garr Bedge bounced him on his knee.
"And that's another thing...a friendly simulant?" Cass said.
"'E reprogrammed me" said Garr, nodding toward Gomez' corpse "Made me subservient to you scumbags. If it were up to me I'd murder you all, but programming is programming..."
"Something isn't right here..." Cass said
Her thoughts were interuppted though as a USB plug shot out from Max's chest, and shot out toward Garr's ear. It plugged in and Garr went stiff and silent and new programming began to replace his own.
"I SMEGGING KNEW IT!" Cass said "It's the doombringer!"
She snatched Katrinas rifle from her hands and opened fire, a stray bullet severing the cable connecting the boy to the simulant and making the Doombringer revert to it's default form before slipping through a vortex to safety.
"SEE!" Cass said loudly, spinning round to gloat that she was right, only to see Katrina on her knees sobbing, and Jay crouched alongside her, one hand lovingly on her shoulder in reassurance. It was too painful to watch so she turned her attention back to the simulant who was rebooting....
