Efof felt groggy. More than that time he'd eaten himself into a chocolate coma.
The air was almost depleted, there was only a few minutes left.
He watched out the window at the gas giant. They weren't moving fast enough to
shrink, it still loomed close to them.
For once in his pathetic life, Efof started to think scientifically. He'd never
done this before, but now on the eve of his death he wondered about the universe
and how it was created, what things were made of. He wondered what sort of gas
the gas giant was made of. It was a bit pointless to even guess really, the only
gas he'd experienced was the gas that comes out of Jay after he'd had a curry.
Spinning towards the gas giant was a spinning piece of metal, as it spun it
glinted back at him. It was the fuel pod he'd jettisoned earlier. It was mostly
empty, only a few drops of fuel left inside.
The fuel pod started to be crushed as it flew into the gas giant. The pressure
of the humongous planetary body pressing on the sealed fuel pod, eventually
making it pop like a crisp packet being run over by a car.
Efof watched, expecting to see at the most a tiny little explosion. A pinprick
of light as the pod blew under the pressure. Typical, a pathetic little firework
to signify the end of its life, which was more than even Efof was going to get.
But the pathetic tiny explosion was all that was needed. It ignited the gas
around it, a flame which spread across the gas giant, fanning out until it had
spread over the entire planet. A fireball was sent out in all directions, a
massive wave of burning flame. This instantly warmed up the escape pod and
propelled it at lightning speed back towards the Blue Dwarf.
Everyone inside screamed, except for Efof who was looking throuigh the window at
the gas giant, now flaming like a bright sun. They'd created a new star.
Ahead, the Blue Dwarf was only a spec, which quickly grew as they got closer.
"We're going to hit it!" Efof yelled, now suddenly panicking.
"But which bit?" Rosette asked.
Efof found time in his panic to shrug. "Hopefully a soft bit?"
"There are no soft bits!"
They were going to fast to stop, and were miliseconds from crashing into the
Blue Dwarf.
