Rosette, Efof & Justin - "The End?"
<snip>"But the bad news..." Rosette continued. "Is that we'll be crushed with the pressure. When we reach the core of the planet this pod will be crushed to the size of a pennycent."
They all gazed out the window at the looming gas giant. </snip>"Can't we just use the pods maneuvering engines to get us to stop?" Justin said, moving over to the controls. He started the jets off, which began to slow their decent, but the power flickered again, causing him to stop, in case it all went out."That wasn't so great... we're slower, but still heading towards it." Rosette said, while Efof peered through the glass, all four hands on it like a child peering in through a shop window."According to the power guage, we have about 1 second of jet before the power is out, and even life support will end when that happens.""Life support? we need that, don't we?" Efof asked, still looking at the planet."This pod was never meant for this many people. It'll end early anyway... We just need to get the pod stopped, and hope the Dwarf finds us." Rosette said, trying to figure out how to stop them."How do we stop?" Justin asked, looking over the controls that they had. "Our momentum is too great, and we don't have enough power to get us to stop with the jets alone.""I've got it!" Efof said. "I remember watching an old cartoon with giant robots. I know how to do this." he said, moving them out of the way. Moving to the controls, he used the last of the jets to turn them around, so they were facing directly towards the gas giant. The momentum kept them spinning around slowly."We're heading the wrong way!" Justin said, about to insult the Ffionian, when Rosette hit him over the head."I know what he's planning. It'll work." she said, and waited while Efof ejected one of the fuel pods as it faced the planet, giving them a boost of momentum the other way, slowing them further. Another spin, and he ejected another superfluous item, until they'd started heading away from the planet."Efof, you're a genius." Rosette said, almost feeling like hugging him. Unfortunately, it was at that moment that the power completely died, taking life support with it. They'd have no more than an hour of remaining oxygen if they conserved what they had left....--------------------------------~It's over~ Rosette thought, as the last puff of warm air condensed into steam as it left her lungs, hitting the cold air of the escape pod. The three of them lying silently in the almost freezing cold.~I didn't even have time to...~ she began thinking, working out the things she'd done wrong in her life. Instead of that thought continuing, she saw images of the Hymenoptera version of her when she was trapped in the station... All the things she'd done to Rufus, framing him for damaging the wormhole drive... <Tag. Anyone want to save them at the last second?>
