*Action* - "Unknown Ship" part2

Where: Starbug
When: As the Starbug sinks in the swamp

"But how was I supoosed to know, that le thrusteers would not be powerfool
enough!?"
"You weren't, that's true. But how would you expect us to get back to the Blue
Dwarf with no smegging glass to keep the air inside the shuttle!"
".....good point..."
"Now what do we do?!"
"Well." Said Efof "You could start by passing me a cheese and pickle sandwich.."

Jack passed a sandwich over to Efof, who opened up Starbug's side door and sat
down on the edge, his feet dangling into the swamp. Efof chewed on the sandwich
happily.
"Nice crusty bread!" He said with genuine enthusiasm.
"Ahh oui, you should 'ave felt eet early this morneeng, lovely and ow you say...
soft. French bread ees the best!"
Efof nodded.
The Starbug jolted and sank a bit lower into the swamp. Gooey swamp water
spilled over the side of the door and spilled into the main section. Jack lifted
the picnic box off the floor and onto his knee so that it didn't get wet.
"I also brought le French wine!" He said, getting it out of a bag and removing
the cork.
"Oh yeah, that's the stuff Seymour's always on about isn't it?" Said Efof. "He's
never let me try any. He says it's too expensive to waste on aliens who aren't
loaders, royalty or omnipotent."
Jack pulled out the cork and poured some into a glass for him. Efof was ready to
gulp it down when Katrina screamed at him.
"Efof you're supposed to be driving!"
"Hey. You said yourself that we can't get back to the ship, we've got no
windows."
"So?" Said Katrina. "What's your plan? Just sit here eating baguettes until we
sink into this swamp?" She took another step backward as the dirty swamp water
came further into the ship. It began to slosh around the cockpit area.
"No problem!" Said Efof. "We'll just ring the Captain, and he'll send another
Starbug to come and pick us up. Easy."
Katrina felt herself going pale. "No. Lets not do that."
"Why?" Efof said, turning to face her.
"Because... Jay... the Captain, he's my boyfriend. Although I'd live to see him
riding down here on a white horse to save us, I think we should... do it
ourselves."
"Why?" Said Efof. "And where does the horse capable of spaceflight come into
this?"
"The horse is a figure of speech Efof!" Said Katrina. "But what I meant was, I
don't want Jay to feel that he has to protect me all of the time. I can do this
myself. I want to prove to him that I don't need looking after."
"Okay well good luck." Said Efof. "Cos I'm finishing this sandwich and then
calling him."
"No!" Said Katrina. "Help me think of-"
Just then, the ground started to tremble and they all looked up to hear a
terrible roaring in the skies. Katrina ran to the front of the cockpit to look
through the Starbug's smashed windows, whilst Efof and Jack just looked through
the side door.
A plume of thick black smoke trailed a small spaceship, which seemed to be
falling from the sky like a dead weight. Efof pointed upwards and a piece of
sandwich fell out of his mouth.
"It's coming straight towards us!" He said.
The ship actually wasn't coming directly towards them, the chances of hitting
them over any other part of the planet were a billion to one. But, in this story
stranger things have happened. The ship actually flew incredibly close to them,
flying straight over them, missing the top of the Starbug by only a few metres
and crashing through the surrounding trees.
The ship was slightly smaller than their Starbug, but still big enough to hit
every tree in their immediate surroundings. It crashed through them all leaving
a path of destruction, where it finally went out of view.
"Where did it go?" Asked Katrina.
"I dunno. I didn't hear it crash." Said Efof.
There was an explosion on the horizon. "Oh, wait. There it is." Efof said.
The Starbug's radio cracked and the voice of Captain Chrysler came though.
"Efof, Jack and hun... I mean Katrina. We just detected a shuttle go down near
you. Did you see it?"
"Yes we did." Said Efof. "It almost hit us, it was like, neeewwwoooouuuummmm...
boom!"
"It was broadcasting a distress signal." Said the Captain. "Remember the Space
Corps directive 23853B 'It is our primary overriding duty to contact other life
forms, exchange information, and, wherever possible..."
"Bring them sandwiches!" Said Jack Rockfield.
"Something like that." Said Jay over the radio. "Just go talk to them, help them
out if they need it."
"But Jay... I mean Captain. Who were they?"
"Not sure. It could be a totally new alien species we haven't met yet. Which
means you're our Ambassadors in a first contact situation. Be nice!"
Jay signed off, leaving the small team alone in the sinking Starbug.
"Well lets go." Said Katrina.
"I don't like aliens." Said Efof.
"You ARE an alien dummy." Said Katrina.
"Um... we are forgetteeng somezeeng." Said Jack. "We're in a ...'ow do you
say...swamp."
