Katrina sighed deeply and stared blankly into her wine glass as her friend, Sam, gabbled on about how she could do better than Jay, how his hair isn't right and how he had no prospects.
"He's a starship captain!" Katrina had protested
"Yes" Samantha had replied "But that won't get him anywhere.." she obliviously continued. She'd carried on like this for the better part of an hour, and then went on to complaining how she hadn't been able to find a man for herself because they were all jerks on this ship.
"...nothing to do with the fact that you're a total headcase..." Katrina muttered out loud by mistake.
"WHAT?" Sam snapped.
"Erm..would you like to get some..breakfast?" Katrina responded, saying the first thing that she could think of that might possibly sound a bit like she said instead of headcase. 
"It's 9pm!"
"Oh yes..how silly of me, my watch must be fast...oh well....drink?!" she said quickly getting to her feet and grabbing both her and Sam's wine glasses before heading to the bar.
She breathed a sigh of relief over a (she hoped) successful cover up and placed the empty glasses on the bar counter and waited to be served.
She idly glanced at the notice board and a request for away-team members caught her eye.
"Danger, adventure and free lunches eh?" she wondered out loud. She couldn't remember the last time she'd been on an official away mission, being an engineer didn't really get her out much, and it didn't help that she was dating the Captain either. He'd nearly always pick another engineer for away missions. She knew he was trying to keep her safe, and after what happened to his late wife, who could blame him? But she hated that Jay, and everyone else always got to have all the fun.
Jay wouldn't like it. But she was going to volunteer this mission and if he had a problem with that, she'd lock his Xbox in the cupboard again.
 
She didn't often see Jay cry, but that day there were floods of tears as he pathetically prodded the buttons on his wireless controller in front of a blank tv screen. It was made worse when Phil had come over and realising that he wasn't going to get to play Geese of War, broke down into tears as well and the two men sat on the couch, hugging each other, sobbing on each others shoulders.
 
Still, serves him right for forgetting to set the Sky+ for Hollyoaks, Katrina thought.
 
"Holly" Katrina said "Sign me up for the mission..I'm sure they could use an engineer..."

Who: Jack Rockfield, Captain Jay and Holly.Where: Captain's Office and Jack's room.Between his room and the Captain's office Jack heard all sort of recent happenings here at the Blue Dwarf. From people being shrink to miniature size and grew back again, Holly becoming crazy and being repaired with a toaster to vending machines giving free drinks on floor 7. He was wondering if all this really happened and what would be next.At the Captain's office, Jack knocked three times on the door before entering after hearing the typical words "Come in!"-"Greetings Captain, my name is Jack Rockfield, I was sent by JMC as a geologist for the Blue Dwarf. I am here to report for duty Sir.- Oh yeah, Rockfield… I've just read your file, welcome… Welcome aboard, the name is Jay Chrysler and I am the Captain of this ship. Sorry I just got out from some crazy adventure I need to put my thoughts together…" He said while pouring some coffee in a cup and turning to the window.- "You know, we don't do mining on the Blue Dwarf…" Said the Captain while looking outside at the deep space.- But Sir, this is a mining ship isn't it? Replied Jack with a surprised look on his face.- Yes it is, but don't get me wrong I'm not saying that we don't want to do some, it's just that a lot happened and we didn't had time to really focus on mining you know? Then he started to tell him everything that happen on the Blue Dwarf (at least the main events).- But may I suggest something Sir. Don't you think it's strange that JMC send a geologist to a ship that doesn't send any mining report to them for so many years? If I may say Sir, I thing they may be planning on doing an assessment on this ship and if they found that this ship is not doing at least what he's meant to be, they may shut it down…"Jack got the Captain's full attention this time. He turned to him, leaving his thoughts outside in the deep space, and started to think. Then he said:"Yes you're probably right, you know what, take this I'll contact you as soon as possible." Then he gave a Holowatch to Jack and directed him to the exit.Jack returned to his room and waited. He didn't had to wait too long to receive a message from his holowatch:" Rockfiel? Rockfield, can you read me? - It was Captain Jay - I have a mission for you, we will shortly pass by a little planet, so I need you to get a crew of at least 3 Blue Dwarf members to go with you on that planet. Your mission will be to explore the planet and see if it has anything we can get for mining. Over and out." Well that was quick... Jack though. And how can I get at least 3 crew crazy enough to come with me on a planet we don't know anything about??? I don't even know anyone on this ship!"Just put a post on the Parrotts bar's board, dude! - Said Holly from his screen – That's what I do to get the girls...- Holly, you were there the all time! Do you think it will work? Replied Jack.- Well, it doesn't for me with the girls, but for you it's completely different so just try it! I can put it on for you if you want.- Hmm... Ok, why not. We'll see who will join then.- Don't worry I'll manage something catchy..."So Holly put this post on the Parrotts Bar's board:" To who might be interested in something different for the next days: We are looking for a crew to explore a little planet we will pass by.
