The Coyote Pack
Sure enough, eyes glowing in the faint embers of the fire, a small pack of hungry predators approaches for the northeast, scrambling over the rocky slopes of the dry stream bed. No longer howling, they growl deep in their throats at the sight of so much meat. The messenger's horse raises up on its hind legs pawing at the air, whinnying a challenge in response. The other two horses are not as brave, tugging at their hobbles with the instinct of all prey to break and run.
