Secret Society
Lydia leaned against the concrete wall, her arms folded against her chest as her gaze darkened on the newest addition to the underground society. The young child shivered when he took a quick glance at the 15 yr old Lydia staring him down. "Is she going to kill me or something?" He whispered to Cynthia, who was writing down his information on a paper attached to an old stained clipboard.
Cynthia looked up at the boy and chuckled. "No, she won't kill you. She has a gentle heart, but a tough exterior. She will be doing the next part of your entrance evaluation, so try to relax a little bit." Her voice was smooth, almost as if silk could be vocal.
"What's the... next part?" The boy asked, his uneasiness growing.
"My sister will enter and evaluate your mind. She's going to decide if you're a risk to our society or not. We've already almost been found out once, and the battle to defend our secret was.... messy." Cynthia said, folding her hands over the clipboard. "If my sister decides you're able to handle our secret, you will be placed in a room with someone else, and you will be assigned a job within your first week here. You are over the age of 13, which means you are able to contribute."
The boy shifted his weight in his chair, anxiety beginning to overwhelm him. Cynthia placed a gentle hand on his shoulder and offered a kind smile. "Don't let everything get to you so easily. I know this process seems a little scary -" She leaned in and lowered her voice to a whisper "- and my sisters presence doesn't help very much." She raised her voice back up to a normal tone. "But, we take care of each other in here. We're a big family, and we work together to make things feel more like home. You'll be safe and protected."
