Write it Down
Bighorn Basin - Wyoming
Perrine had come across this level of misunderstanding or confusion before when he talked. Over the past year he had made some considerable improvements in his diction; however, obviously it still had a ways to go. Perhaps it would never really get better, but he hoped with practice it would. Of course his practice with others wasn’t very often.
He just smiled gracefully and slowly looked down to his right. On the bench of the riding seat next to him was what looked like a bound book of parchment. He carefully picked it up and opened it, not wanting to alarm the girl. Perrine was pretty sure the dog was relaxing as Luna seemed to be perfectly content now too. He began writing something inside it with the pencil that was contained within.
When he finished writing he gestured that he was going to toss it to her. With a careful underhand throw, with precision, the journal made its way through the air toward Sophie. The light from the lamp on the front post of the wagon providing enough illumination for her to see it moving in the dark.
If she were to decide to look inside she would see that it was full of lists and spreadsheet looking layouts of items, multiple drawings of the face of the same woman from different angles, self drawn maps of the countryside’s, personal entries, to do lists, drawings and other miscellaneous things. The last entry is where she would find what he wrote to her.
<I am Perrine. Horse is Luna. Owl is Whisp. Bringing supplies to people in need. Do you need a lift somewhere in the direction we are heading? Yes, hop on and I will walk. No, do you want food or water before we leave you?>
He hoped that she remembered where he had pointed earlier, but he held out his left hand to point again just in case. It was the way towards the hidden mutant community. Of course, he didn’t know that is the way her wolf had been leading her.
