Waiting for the return of Lydia

Johnathan helped Cynthia clean the dishes and put everything away before bringing all leftovers downstairs to the underground kitchen. He had to sleep upstairs in the house, in case authorities approached for any reason, so after checking in on everyone and everything, he came back upstairs and reported the well being of the society to Cynthia, who jotted everything down in a notebook. "Are you wanting to get some sleep?" He asked, offering his room to Cynthia.
"No, I'm going to stay up until Lydia gets home. I appreciate the offer though." Cynthia responded, taking a seat in a near by rocking chair.
"I'm sorry, by the way, about Lydia. I did get her in the van, but she jumped out." Johnathan said as he brought Lydia a steaming cup of dandelion tea.
"It's not your fault John, Lydia's always been stubborn. She puts herself first."
"It's odd how you're related to her. She's a great kid, but the differences between you two amaze me." Johnathon responded while placing a blanket over Cynthia's legs.
Cynthia gave a light hearted laugh, settling comfortable in the chair. "Get some sleep." She said, her tone gentle but carrying a sense of authority to it. Johnathan nodded and walked to his bedroom, but it'd be a sleepless night for him.
