The Fruit will Survive

Downtown - Sheridan, Wyoming

He couldn't help but smile back, his striking blue eyes filled with genuine concern. "Don't worry, Lydia," he reassured her, glancing down at the bag of groceries. "The fruits will survive. At least until we turn them into pies." He whispered that last part playfully as if the fruit might hear him.

Upon hearing she was in trouble, he then leaned in slightly, his voice filled with sincerity. "Is there anything I can do to help with your sister and the cop situation?" he asked, genuinely wanting to assist. He wasn’t sure why she was in trouble, perhaps she had done something; however, it felt right to ask.

As he spoke, his heartbeat quickened just a tiny bit, a natural response to conversing with the girl who had unexpectedly crossed his path in downtown Sheridan.
