JP - Insult from a Cat

“WHAT?!” Kiana shouted into the phone in disbelief. “Herbert has been human for like two days and Whiskers has never shown any interest in stealing a car before!”

“I know…but my car is gone and they are as well.” Gregor replied.

"Shit!" Kiana looked at her brother and Gelf. "Herbert and Whiskers are gone with Gregor's car."

“He doesn’t even know how to drive!!! How?!” Gelf blurted.

“Er, he kind of watched me driving a lot for our chicken nugget runs. And we binged Fast and Furious movies last week.” Kiana admitted.

Gelf facepalmed.

“Hold on, Miss Kiana. The dogs seem to be having a fit.” Gregor said and stepped onto the wrap around porch just as the dogs returned with Whiskers. “Well, Prince Whiskers is back, but not Herbert…”

“Shit…. Is Whiskers okay?” Kiana asked worriedly.

Gregor went over and grabbed Whiskers once the dogs dropped him onto the porch. Taking him inside, he got a towel and started to dry him off. “He doesn’t appear wounded…just soaked to the bone from the rain.” He answered Kiana.

“He must be pissed.” Kiana said, hearing Whiskers yowling in anger. “He hates to get wet.” Whiskers hissed at Gregor.

“I understand your trepidation, Whiskers, but I must dry you off,” Gregor said with a sigh. “He looks soaked to the bone, Kiana. I think something may have happened.” Frowning, he plucked some loose glass from Whiskers’ fur. “Something definitely happened…”

“Whiskers! Stop insulting Gregor. Where the hell is Herbert?” Kiana scolded her cat.

<Giant monster took the stupid bastard.> Whiskers replied.

“He says a monster took Herbert.” Kiana said.

“A monster?” Gregor froze, dropping the towel to the floor. “Did…did it speak to you, Whiskers?”

<Yes.> Whiskers head butted the phone.

“Whiskers says yes.” Kiana said.

Sorley did not like what he was hearing from Kiana’s end of the conversation. He slipped his hand around Gelf’s.

Gregor pinched the bridge of his nose and let out a deep sigh. “I may know where they’ve taken him. I’ll see what I can do.” He explained. “I’ll keep in touch, Miss Kiana. Speak to you later.” Hanging up, he finished drying off Whiskers and smiled at him. “You and I may find Evie, friend.”

<We fucking better, asshole.> Whiskers flicked his wet paws at Gregor.

“I know from that gesture that you’re insulting me, Whiskers.” Gregor stated in a cold tone. “Don’t tempt me to lock you up in that cat carrier in the closet.” With that said, he headed toward the front door, stepping outside into the rain without concern.

He would make his way to the road where he’d eventually stop someone and “borrow” their car…

Whiskers followed Gregor closely, trying to use the man’s body to block the rain, mewing piteously the whole time. He was getting wet and it was terrible.

“You know, there are cats that swim, right?” Gregor commented with a chuckle as drove them along roads, taking paths in dark areas.

<Those are dogs in cat suits.> Whiskers started meticulously licking himself dry.

Gregor had no clue what the cat was saying and eventually got them to a place that was literally in the middle of nowhere and just looked like an abandoned field. “Here we are…I hope I’m right.”

<It looks like a nice place to murder field mice but where is my Goddess?> Whiskers flattened his ears as he looked out at the field.

“Underground is our next stop.” Gregor said as he looked at Whiskers. “Ready to face hell?”

Without waiting for an answer, the man got out of the car and made his way along the grass, stopping at a part of the grass that was not the appropriate color. It looked dead and browning. Crouching by it, he felt around until he touched what he was looking for and slipped his fingers beneath a handle, pulling up and pushing forward so the hidden door would slide away and reveal the passage.

Whiskers followed Gregor and peered curiously down the passage. <Is Evie down there?>
