JP - Never had a Chance

Haven peeked over the plush bunny at Yule.

Yule just watched them leave and finally looked at Haven. “Are you gonna be okay?” She asked.

“I don’t know.” Haven admitted. “This… I know this isn’t going to kill me, I’m not going to bleed out or get some infection here. But… I don’t even know how to feel. I never wanted that baby, I never wanted to get raped. I thought I might feel relieved for a moment and feel fucking terrible for it… It’s sad, the poor little thing never had a chance. In MegaCorp the little guy or girl would have been experimented on and been a prisoner its whole life. Then couldn't survive outside MegaCorp. It’s just… really terrible. I feel like shit.”

“It’s gonna be okay, Haven.” Yule encouraged her friend with a tired smile. “Just focus on healing. I’m sure they’ll let us stay here for now…or we can go somewhere else and just avoid MegaCorp.”

“What about you?” Haven asked Yule. “Are you going to be okay?”

“I don’t know…” Yule felt fresh tears biting at the corners of her eyes. “I’m just scared, Haven…”

“What about Gelf? Didn’t I see her?” Haven asked, sitting up.

“She’s doing good. She has a boyfriend and friends and…yeah.” Yule twirled a lock of her pink hair. “I just…I don’t think I can be around her much.”

“Why not?” Haven asked. “I remember them visiting the meta village… Kiana seemed okay from what I heard and that Sorley was a sweet guy.”

“Yeah, but…they have a good life and I…” Yule touched her stomach. “I don’t know, I’m messed up…”

“That’s not your fault.” Haven said, glancing at her own stomach, which felt deflated. “Where I end up you go too, okay? Neither of us has to be alone.”

Yule nodded and rubbed her tears away. “Thanks…”

“We’re out of MegaCorp now, nothing can be harder than what we have already been through.” If Haven did not hate being touched she might have hugged Yule then. Just then the doctor returned with medication for Haven. Haven sat up and swallowed some pills with water.

“You’re Yule, right?” The doctor asked the pink haired girl.

Yule looked at the doctor and nodded slowly. “Y-yes, I’m Yule…” She almost whispered.

“Are you ready to be examined?” The doctor asked Yule, gesturing to the other bed. There was a curtain and a track on the ceiling showing how the curtain could divide the room for privacy.

“It’s not too bad…” Haven told Yule, though she absolutely hated the exam and found it painful- but she found every touch painful and knew that the doctor was being as gentle as she could.

Yule looked at Haven and got on the other bed. “Okay…” She said and would let the doctor do whatever they needed. All they would really find was that her tail had been cut off and she was pregnant.

“I take it you’re aware that you are pregnant?” The doctor asked. “Have you decided what you want to do?”

“I…I don’t know…I can’t kill a baby, even an unborn one.” Yule said as she set her hands on her stomach. “But I don’t know if I can raise a child either…”

“You have time to make whatever decision you want, so don’t feel pressured to make up your mind right away.” The doctor said, “There are families that would be willing to adopt your baby if you choose to not terminate the pregnancy but can not keep your child.”

“I could never terminate the pregnancy,” Yule said, shaking her head. “I…I’ll figure it out when it gets close to time…talk to people…see who can care for the baby.”

The doctor nodded. “It will be okay. I’ll have some prenatal vitamins sent up for you.”

“Thank you,” Yule gave the doctor a small bow, something she had learned to do while in the facility. It often got guards to leave her and Haven alone for a bit. “We never got medications or any real medical care in there…”

“Things will be different out here, you have rights here. I know all of these changes are overwhelming.” The doctor said, getting the hint that Yule wanted her to go. “There will be food sent up with the vitamins.” She said and left.

Haven looked at Yule. “If you want to keep the baby I’ll help.” She offered, not sure what she could do.

“Just being my friend helps me, Haven.” Yule replied. “Knowing I have a friend like you around helps a lot…” It really did help Yule knowing she still had a friend as kind as Haven around. Most of her life had been spent alone with others being cruel due to her…abnormalities. MegaCorp cutting off her tail had been horrible, but the ridicule, the rape, and all the other horrible things they did to both her and Haven were just horrible. She hoped they never had to go through that again.
