JP - The Goddess's Window
Whiskers slashed the back of Herbert’s calves. <Open a can of tuna.> The cat was not the least taken aback by the pig’s transformation.
Herbert winced and grabbed Whiskers by scruff. “Not if you’re gonna be a demanding little shit.” He said with a raised eyebrow.
<Like you haven’t been opening and closing everything you can.> Whiskers sniffed.
"The fuck is that supposed to mean?" Herbert asked in irritation. He had mostly been either sitting on the couch or wandering around the farm in an attempt to better get used to his body. He'd had a fight with the shower earlier where he couldn't get the water warm. It was either too cold or too hot and he eventually gave up and just took a cold shower while shivering his ass off.
<You’re wasting your thumbs.> Whiskers scoffed. <Let me in Evie’s room. We have to make sure it’s ready for our Goddess.>
Herbert snorted and found the key to Evie’s room where he knew Kiana always left it. Going up there, he opened the door and walked inside, dropping Whiskers onto the bed. Without a word, he walked out and locked poor Whiskers in the room. “Wasting my thumbs my ass.” He chuckled.
Whiskers made biscuits on Evie's bed, smelling her fading scent. It would be hours before he realized that he was locked in. He screamed and scratched the door.
Herbert turned up the volume of the TV, wanting to wait until Whiskers wore himself out.
<DO NOT FORCE ME TO SHIT UNDER THE GODDESS’S BED> Whiskers yowled.
<Then you can explain to Kiana who will explain to Evie about how you shit under her bed because you got locked in there for being an asshole to me.> Herbert answered and chuckled at some silly cop show he was watching.
<YOU HAVE THE THUMBS!” Whiskers wailed.
<What was that? I can’t hear you over this show.> Herbert teased.
There was the sound of broken glass as Evie’s window shattered.
Herbert sighed heavily. “Dick…” He grumbled and just left Whisker’s food in a bowl on the floor before going to check on the rest of the farm. It felt weird being a human, being taller than most of the animals here, yet still able to speak to them. What was he supposed to do?
Whiskers found Herbert. <You better fix Evie’s window before it rains.>
“You shouldn’t have broken the damn window in the first place!” Herbert snapped.
<Gelf left you in charge.> Whiskers replied airily. <Fixing broken things is your job.>
<She never said I had to fix anything.> Herbert retorted.
<No one else here can fix it.> Whiskers pointed out. <You’re the only one with hands. ANd I can feel in my fur that it’s going to rain soon.>
<I have hands, but I’m not coordinated with them, dude.> Herbert pointed out and was struggling with opening the door again. “Ugh, fingers are impossible to use!”
<When that hurricane knocked a branch into the window and broke it, Sorley hammered a piece of wood over it.> Whiskers thought if it was easy enough for Sorley to do, Herbert should be able to do it.
<I’m not Sorley and I haven’t been human as long as he has. He’s had his whole life to practice!> Herbert finally got the door open and sighed, hunting down the phone and struggling to call Kiana.
<They’re going to think you’re inadequate.> Whiskers taunted. But he really wanted Evie’s window fixed before it would rain. He wanted her room to remain intact and just like she left it.
Herbert, after talking with them, hung up and glared at Whiskers. “Go fuck a girl cat or something.”
<What about Evie’s window?> Whiskers asked. He was actually very worried about her room.
<Gregor is coming to fix it.> Herbert answered.
<Gelf should have left him in charge.> Whiskers said, going outside so he could climb through the broken window into Evie’s room.
Gregor would arrive a few minutes later and show Herbert all the items needed for fixing a window. He talked Herbert through it all and only helped when needed. His gray eyes looked at Whiskers. “Hello again, little prince.” He said.
Whiskers affectionately head butted Gregor’s leg, then he floppedo n his back for belly rubs.
Gregor, being the tall man that he was, crouched down and rubbed Whiskers belly gently before making sure nothing would get in through the window. “Once it is dry again, we’ll properly fix it. Until then, let us get the other animals put away so they won’t be stuck out in the storm.”
Herbert glared at Whiskers, but nodded and followed Gregor to get work done.
Whiskers supervised, following the two around with his tail held high, making sure everything was done correctly.
Any time Herbert didn’t do something right, Gregor would correct him and have him do it again. They got the last of the animals put away just in time as the rain began to fall. “You took a long time, boy.” He said to the pink haired man.
“I’ve never done this before!” Herbert blurted.
“Hmmm…” Gregor didn’t say anything else but picked up Whiskers and opened his umbrella, taking him back to the house. This meant Herbert had to walk alone through the rain.
