16: Nightcrawler (Jamie)

I smiled. “Don’t worry Kurt. There’s nothing to forgive. You are not the first student to be overwhelmed. Remember, you do not have to do everything on day one. Not even month one. This is all new. I think you got a bit over excited, nothing more than that. Rather than throw yourself into activities, get yourself settled, acclimate to the change. Take your time. If you want to distract yourself with some fencing practice, there’s three of us do it every day. I think a match is a bit ambitious right now.
“Danny is a good guy,” I told him. “He is ambitious when it comes to cooking. I know that much. There’s a kitchen for each dormitory so you can do some baking there is you want. If you are like Danny, ask in the main kitchens to do proper baking.”
Kurt has a good sense of humour, and to make a joke work in a second language is a pretty good achievement.
“My advice about Dr Reyes is stay clear,” I told him. “She is a good doctor but really overworked. Maybe leave a box with some of those pastries at her office door. It is best not to disturb her.”
