07: Ayala

The next morning after Bernice had fielded a bundle of teenage annoyances from her charges, Bernice took Ayala to breakfast.
Eggs, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms and toast. And tea. She made sure Ayala heard the words but didn't asked her to repeat them, this was breakfast they were sharing not a lesson.
She had never got the the idea hash browns, and the idea of pancakes with syrup anywhere near something savoury made her want to hurl.
Bernice showed subtly how to handle a knife and fork, but if Ayala was finger fooding it that did not matter one bit.
After they had eaten Bernice sat drinking her tea and looked at the cluster of items Ayala had collected. She examined each closely in turn and asked. "What is this?"
It was the same question each time and she made sure that she got Ayala's word as near correct as she could.
