04.31: Dead Girl
“Yes, a zombie apocalypse would not be high on my objectives for th school,” Val said warily but Jenny could see the woman’s mouth twitch with mirth. Val tapped something into her phone and spoke. “Moira are you in the infirmary? Your office. Good. Are you busy? I have a young lady who would like you to give her the once over. Excellent. We will be right with you.”
Val listened to Jenny saying what she would and wouldn’t be viewing, she sounded to be a responsible person.
“You will have full internet access on the TV’.”
The doctor’s office was situated in the right hand wing of the house on the ground floor, adjacent to the infirmary. Val introduced them to one another.
Moira Mactaggart was a woman about Val’s age, her accent was British, vaguely Scots.
SHe spent some time doing what doctors do when they meet a new patient, taking particulars and asking a few questions about personal details, height, weight and so on. The woman did not bat an eye when she got no life signs, she did not react to Jenny being dead.
Val sat on a chair in the office, outside the examination room. “Val?” she spoke a little louder as she removed the sphygmomanometer cuff from around Jenny’s arm. “Do we have a portable unit close by?”
“No but I will get one brought up from Operations. Give me a minute.”
Moira smiled. “You show all the signs of being dead Dee. Without any noticeable signs of deterioration. Something is maintaining your continuity, for want of a better expression. Given how long it is since you died, I do not think you are in any immediate danger of actual… demise.”
The medic was matter of fact, not harsh but she wasn’t the kind to pussyfoot around using euphemisms.
Val Cooper-Xavier returned with a small dark case which she handed to the doctor. Once it was flipped open the doctor typed on a small touchpad.
“Definitely a mutant signature. I will need to run more extensive tests but my initial analysis tells me your mutant gene is keeping you going. You are alive Dee, simply not in the conventional sense.”
