Day 5
(Day 5 - Saturday- afternoon Beach party Co Post with Redsword)
With Lunch over and people going in different directions, Conner took a walk along the beach. He likes the feel of the sun on his skin. The sound of the waves. The people making noise talking and the activities. he watched as the surfers started to get out on the waves he stoped watching JD and Rose doing their own thing. He was happy for them but at times missed hanging around JD and the trouble they would start sometimes.
He stopped looking at Jocelyn. She looked to be having fun and getting good use of the Sports umbrella. He walked up to Jocelyn. He looked around "Hay Girl what no swimming?" he asks with a smile.
Jocelyn sat watching the waves. Having taken a break from the sand castle when she felt her skin getting hot and stingy like an on coming sun burn when she heard Conner call to her. Coming out of some daydream. "Maybe a bit later." She said taking off the borrowed '70's beat cop' sunglasses and resting them on top of her head, blinking a few times to adjust to the change in light. "Everything set up?" Half looking at him half at her feet idly curling and uncurling her pink painted toes.
"I can see you are making good use of the sports umbrella. Just don't hide all day Jocelyn. You will miss out" he said with a smile. He could see that she was turning pink. Her sunglasses were men's glasses. He had seen them before but could not remember from who or where he had seen them last. Conner was just glad someone besides him was helping her out. Her skin was starting to burn some. Sunscreen would help some maybe. "Hay, wait a sec," he said. He turned and jogged off not too far he rifled through a black bag with a red Nike symbol on it. He pulled out something and Jogg back to where Jocelyn was sitting here this is good stuff we call it frog skin sunblock. it will help you so you don't burn and it stays on even in water" says Conner.
Jocelyn nodded taking the sun block from him. "I hope it works better than the stuff I already used." She said, "I swear I could sunburn in a thunderstorm." She took a glob of it and started on her pale pinkening legs first, then arms and shoulders. "Could you get my lower back and between my shoulders?" She asked Conner as she finished apply the lotion to her face and back of her neck. "Just promise me this stuff isn't gonna make me tan up like a toaster marshmallow."
"No problem I would be happy to." Conner replied. He waited for her to turn around some and sat beside her. He put some on his hands and just below her shoulders gently and slowly spread the sunblock over her back. "This spf is high I and JD and some others use this when we are on the beach all day. I burn to, JD not so much. A guy we call Red uses this brand too and no one is whiter than him." he said with a grin and chuckle. "There got your back. I hope you get out to meet people and have some fun out there" he suggested.
Jocelyn flinched at first touch against her sensitive skin but laughed, "I'm pale but that girl Sunday I think was her name she's like a ghost. I'm surprised she came. She doesn't seem to social, I always see her sitting alone." she said putting the sunglasses back down. "But I've met a person. Rose. She helped me with that." she motioned with a finger to the sand castle. "But thanks for not getting weird about the sunblock on my back." she said, "Some guys would have lingered." she added. "I had Heather do the first stuff she said pointing to her bag, Conner could see the cheap but high SPF lotion. "I should have got the better stuff, but so of that stuff makes my skin itchy." she said. "I got this stuff once that was scented like Pina coladas and had a rash on my legs for a week." she shrugged, "not like I really need to smell like a Karen drink anyway."
Conner smiled "I am not one to make a girl feel uncomfortable. Don't get me wrong if a girl wants more I will give more. I will flirt and make comments but I still think I am a gentleman most of the time. Besides my mom would kick my ass if I took advantage of a girl. All that said If I am involved I dial back everything with respect to the relationship. He said almost thinking out loud.
"The sunblock is non scented and most do not react to it. That's why JD carries it, Oh ya it is his, and don't worry he does not care if we use it. that's why he has it in that bag. buy the way everything in that bag is for anyone to use. He can be strange. He is the only guy I know that carries a bag full of emergency supplies to the beach." He said with a chuckle. "Even the lifeguards came to him over the summer when he was here. So if you need something just ask JD or I and get what you need" he said.
Jocelyn shrugged, "It's not quite what I mean." she said, "If..." she stopped, "Never mind. I don't really know how to say what I was thinking." she said, "What's that you said about involved and dialing it back?" she asked him, leaning her head back to meet his eyes all be it upside down.
Conner looked a bit confused "OK sorry I did not get what you meant Jocelyn. Dialing it back? If you could not tell by now I like to flirt a lot and talk to girls. I don't think about it it just happens I guess. But if I do get a girlfriend or into a committed relationship I have to be mindful of my habits and try not to do it or not do it so much. It's something I have had to work on the last few years." Conner explained.
Jocelyn pushed herself back upright and looked out at the water "Oh. Yep.. okay... I see." Jocelyn said, before mumbling to herself. "I get it." she said after a pregnant pause. "Plenty of people." she thought.
"Ah.... did I miss something?" he was wondering what this girl could be thinking she was so complicated to him. Conner did not know what to say to her at this point. "are you bothered by my flirting?" he asked concerned.
"No, you didn't miss anything." she said, "How much would it matter if I said it did?" Jocelyn asked, "You don't have to answer that." she said as she dusted the sand off her feet. "I'm sorry I can't be like them. Just saying every little thing without having to know the weight of it." Jocelyn told him. "I..." she paused, but didn't finish the thought.
Conner looked at the sand for a moment in thought. I... Um.... Sorry If you think I was leading you on. I saw you there thinking you are a cool girl maybe needed an extra friend a few days ago. To be honest I am not sure what relation ship or even who I would date at this point. I do think you are a nice girl, complicated but nice. As I said before I need to be careful with what I do and try not to miss lead girls." He said then smiled. "My mom might just kick my ass if i do." Conner said jokingly trying to lighten the moment.
"No." Jocelyn said after a few moments. "I don't really know what I was thinking." she said. "Never mind forget I brought it up."
"Ok" Conner said looking down at the sand he looked back up "I just hope you are having some fun. I would feel bad I asked you to come and you had a bad time." said Conner looking at Jocelyn. He looked over to the volleyball courts "looks like we are starting the volleyball games. I got to get over there. You need anything just ask ok." he said with a smile "I will talk to you later Jocelyn."
Jocelyn waited a few beats after Conner had left and was invested in the game before taking down the umbrella and rolling up the blanket, heading back to the beach house. Trudging past Elana and Sunday. Not saying a word
