So Close

(Beach party - Sat - after lunch)

When lunch over the girls who wanted to surf and some of the guys had gone to their respective beach houses and gotten changed into their wetsuits. The girls consisted of Kaylee who knew how to surf, Courtney who was going to learn from Matt, and Dawn who, along with Justin, Kyle agreed to teach, and Rose who of course was going to have JD teach her. Sam and Heath hadn't gotten back yet and no one was thinking too hard on that.

The girls made their way back to the beach. Kaylee had agreed to teach Blossom. The other girls met with their would-be instructors. Matt and Kyle also getting changed in that time.

Rose made her way to JD. The black wetsuit with the pink trim form-fitting to her body and was taking a little getting used to. "I'm ready if you are." She smiled at him.

JD was on one knee building a pile of sand that was about 6 feet long. He looked up at Rose "wow, you look great in that wet suit" he said smiling looking Rose over. "Ah.. ready for what?" he said jokingly. "You know I am always ready for you." said JD with a smile. He stood up and walked over to his extra surfboard and placed it on the damp sand.

"We need to learn how to pop up on a surfboard first." He lays down on the surfboard balancing it on the pile of sand. demonstrating how to lay on it. "You lay like this on the board as the wave comes in and the board starts to move you go to this position he goes to his knees. then stands. and you Finnish in this position when the board is up to speed." he said hopping off the surfboard. "Most people do not practice this with a pile of sand underneath their board but this will help you balance the board when you get out there." He resets the sand places the board back down. "Now you try it Rose" he suggested as he kneeled next to the board.

Rose smiled at his compliment. "Maybe, I should wear a wet suit more often." She joked.

Watching him lay down on the surfboard and Rose watched him. Not just his movements but his entire body. He seemed comfortable teaching her. Once he got off the board she laid down and waited to see if he corrected anything the way she was laying down. While she might not have needed correction with it she was, kind of, hoping he would.

JD watched to make sure she was laying on the board right. then he felt kind of weird He was jealous of the surfboard with her laying on it he kind of wish it was him. he took a slow deep breath and blink a few times to get the image out of his head. He focused back on Rose. He stepped over her straddling her he bent over then hesitated to put his hands on her waist. What was he afraid of? He had never been like this with any other girls before. Act like a gentleman yes afraid no. He reaches down and gently puts his hands on her waist "you are a little too far up." He said as he gently slid her back a few inches. "If you are too far up it will be harder to stand. now try to go to your knees without tipping the board." He softly said as he let go of her and stepped back.

When he straddled her she could almost sense his hesitation. For herself, being around JD, having him lean over and touch her waste she felt a slight catch of her breath. Usually, though a touch like that would have made her tense up, if just a little. With JD it didn't. She couldn't still understand she felt so safe with him when normally that wasn't the case with boys or really people she just meant.
She made her way to kneeling on the board. The board wobbled a little but she managed to not tip it over.

He watched as she practiced a few times. JD could tell she had a great sense of balance. He found the way she moved to be so exciting to him. JD looked out at the waves to see the others surfing to get his mind off of the other thoughts going through his mind. He looked back at Rose "OK Rose now I will teach you to stand. Now when you are out there you can start on your stomach. If you want then a run on your knees. when you think you're ready to stand" He said. JD went from laying down placing his hands at the edge of the surfboard to his feet but still low on the board then slowly stands up with his arms out to the side the board moved some rocking from side to side. "If you place your feet like this it will help keep balance but in time you will find your own placement. Now we will try this slow in tell you can make it one motion." JD stood behind her as she tried the steps.

She watched him, trying to pay more attention to his movements than his body. She got on her stomach, the knees, she then slowly stood up. Her feet weren't exactly correct and she fell off. She tried again. The second time she stood the board was very unsteady but she was getting more of the feel of it. Still, she fell off. Third time the board was feeling more comfortable she stood on it longer.

Looking and watching as she got better. JD thought train as you fight as his dad use to say to him. He had to put some realism into what they were doing. He like the contours of her body and how the wetsuit outlined her shape. He waited for her a few more times. When she was not looking at JD. He reached down and shook the surfboard. Rose surprised by JDs move lost her footing and fell back. JD stepped forward as she falls back into him. he fell with her they landed in the sand the both of them looking up at the sky he had his arms wrapped around her. JD found himself quite conferrable laying there his head next to hers. he looked over st see her ear he had a sudden urge to nibble on it. JD laughed softly "they call that a wipeout and that's how it happens out there on the waves. He said laughing.

Rose felt like she was getting the hang of it, then out of nowhere, the board shook. The next thing she felt was herself falling and then she was on the ground with JD underneath her. She felt her breath catch in her throat, his lips were so close that ...she took a breath and breathed a laugh. She really didn't want to move but she pushed her way up and off of him. "Well, the balance beam doesn't do that. Even my horse, Midnight, didn't do that." She paused. "Is there a better way to fall if that happens?" That was the athlete in her. She learned ways to fall in gymnastics, equestrian, and skiing to minimize the impact. "Or is it just a go with it kind of thing?

JD sat up next to Rose smiling. "That was what I was going to cover next anyways. You will have a tether that attaches you to the surfboard he lends over and picks it up. Take a Trust Fall. If possible, you need to try to fall back into the wave. Think of it like you’re about to take a wet trust fall. Arms Up. As soon as you feel yourself start to go down, it’s a good idea to get in the habit of covering your head with your arms. Like this. Take It Easy. No matter how confident you are on the water when you wipe out it can be a big deal. No one likes to feel out of control. Now you want the board in front of you if you can that way it does not come up and hit you it hurts and can be dangerous.

Till important that you don’t take your eye off of the board until it stops moving.
It takes almost no effort for the wave to whip your board into the air and send it crashing back down. You risk serious injury if your board nails you in a wipeout.

Unless you are sure that you aren’t in shallow water, don’t try to jump or dive in. If you jump in and you’re closer than you think to the ocean floor, you could break your legs or ankles. If you dive in, you risk breaking your neck.

Wiping out on a surfboard is inevitable. It doesn’t matter if you’re seasoned you are or new on the waves, you’re going to go down at some point or another. just be careful of what you're doing.

She nodded to what he said. "Well, then I suppose the only way to really figure this all out is to actually get on the water " Which only seemed logical. She stood up wiping some of the sand off of her, looked up, and spotted Sam and Heath just getting back. Then focused her attention back on JD.

"Well, the surfboard is for you to use let me get mine and we will do some water and wave stuff before we start surfing." He said standing up. He walked over grabbing his surfboard JD walk up to Rose "let's get into the water." As they got into the water you could tell he was use to it. There was no hesitation wading into the ocean.

When the water was waist deep he laid down on his board. He waited for Rose to do it.

They got into the water. She saw him get on his board, it took her two times but she managed to get on the board. The first wave wasn't very large and she managed to go over it with no issues. The second wave was larger and headed for them.

"When the wave hits us hold your breath push the nose of the surfboard down a little it will go right over you." yelled JD.

Rose managed to do as JD said and that's exactly what happened. She could feel the water surrounding her and then it went over her.

JD check on Rose as the wave passed them. she did good he thought. "paddled for the next wave. the two paddle for the next wave and did the same thing again. ducking the wave this time he looked over to Rose alright now we turn and face the beach. as they turned JD looked at the next wave "OK start to paddle let the wave carry you just stay on your stomach for this run.

They let the wave push them halfway back to shore. Then paddled back out this time when they took the wave she got on her knees it started well but she did not turn too much and the wave overtook her. She did the right thing and fell into the wave. JD watcher her and her surfboard before turning into the wave himself. and going over the backside of the wave and joining her.

She came up coughed a few times and got back on her board as another wave passed by. JD smiled at her making sure everything was ok. "that's what they called being rolled in the surf you get used to it. just don't fight it go with the flow you will end up on top at some point." the let the next wave pass. JD had them to the side out of the way of the others so JD and Rose would not be in their way. "Now we start again" he announced. be for he know it she was standing wobbly but standing.

Some time had passed when He thought she had the hang of it. He went over surfing edict. When you are surfing with others and to know when who goes and how waits for the next waves. and what waves to take right now. after some more time JD told Rose they should break and get water and rest for a little bit.

It took a little while but Rose finally felt more comfortable standing on the board. She wasn't one for giving up though and that was a good thing. By the time JD said they should take a break, she was ready for one and as she made her way to the beach she was wondering how sore she would be tomorrow. When they got to where they'd be sitting. Rose leaned back, letting the sun warm her a bit. "I'm now wondering why I waited so long to learn that." She smiled at him.

JD set his board down next to the other one. smiled back at her lade down beside her facing her on his side now wet her wetsuit was making his mind wander a bit as he looked her over. "It is fun I just started surfing it a few years ago. But for you, I would stick... How do I put this to the bunny waves for about a month then move on." he said then he looked at her face. speaking Italian "Non so come fai. sembri accaldato anche dopo aver nuotato" He said softly. (I don't know how you do it. you look hot even after swimming) then he realizes what he said and how it must have sounded his face turned red some.

Rose felt her cheeks flush, took a breath, and bit her lip. Not sure what to say, at first, to that. "Grazie se continui a completarmi, potrei essere tentato di indossare questo vestito tutti i giorni" (If you keep completing me, I might be tempted to wear this outfit everyday). Truth be told she was appreciating the view she had of him as well. She lightly touched his hand and says "Thank you. For the compliment but also for today. Mi diverto molto e tu sei un ottimo insegnante" ( I had a lot of fun and you make an excellent teacher.
