Seeing Jocelyn at dinner he did not get to talk to her much with everything going on. With the Melissa thing going on. He walked beside JD thinking about what he could do. to be able to talk with her more. Jocelyn was different from the other girls and Conner like that. He looked seeing Jocelyn walking "JD, I will see you later I think a walk in the park would be fun." said Conner looking in Jocelyn's direction. JD shook his head "she is cute. if it was not for Rose I might be taking that walk with her." JD said with a grin. Well, lucky for me then. She does interest me." Conner said looking at JD in a challenging way. Getting while eyed JD raised his hands in surrender. "No worries Conner. I am not that type of guy. you know me better than that" said JD. Conner picked up his pace to walk up beside Jocelyn.
He smiled at her trying to get her attention. "Jocelyn, do you have some time?" asked Conner.
Jocelyn looked up and over to Conner, plastic fork in her mouth carrying a salad and a bottle of juice, her bag swinging on her side. "I guess. I haven't eaten yet though so if you don't mind sitting." she gestured to bench under a tree, as they walked over and she took a seat opening her lunch. A salad with little tomatoes and bits of mozzarella cheese, with a balsamic dressing and a cran-apple juice. She looked up after applying the dressing waiting on Connor to say something.
Conner sat across from her. "how did your day go? I hope it has been a good day for you." asked Conner. He thought he could start out with some simple things and work to asking better questions.
"It's been alright." she started. "Except math... but I sucked at it at my old school so why would that change." she smirked, "and art was fine." she adds before taking a bite of salad. "How 'bout you?" she said covering her mouth.
"Nother day at school, there were some things that start every year," he said. he relaxed some. "math hu, well need help I am good at it. it's this English I am not so good at." replies conner.
"I don't know that I'd be much help on that" she said, "I suc..." mid-sentence Jocelyn's phone start to chime. Not a chime for a text or call it was an alarm. Stopping she dug around in her bag to shut if off and pulled out a small round plastic disc shaped pill organizer. She popped open today's day and dumped the pills in her and then her mouth washing down all three with a swig of cran-apple. "Sorry, I was saying I suck at grammar and thank god for spell check." she said acting like that other things never happened.
"I keep hoping they will come out with a smarter program for writing and spelling" he said. he did wonder what was up with the pills but he just met her and was not going to ask. "where are you from? and brought you to this school?" he asked.
"Wouldn't know it hearing me speak but Southern Missouri" she said, "but I'd rather not talk about why I came here. Not really the best topic of conversation." Jocelyn added not in a hostile tone but a 'drop the subject' tone. "Where are you from?"
"Born and raised in this area my father owns and runs an aerospace engineering company here. that's why I know so much of the area. If you have any questions just let me know." he replied. He wondered what happed back home for her. he would have to be careful what he asked.
"I've been here almost a year. Didn't go out to much though. So I don't know much more than the way I went to work." She shrugged "I know I've said it before and I'm not fishing for compliments, but it's so strange here. All this attention from people who don't know me. Guess part of me didn't take the 'fresh start' as serious as I should've." Jocelyn gave a half smile. "Not bad... just strange."
"why not I think your a nice person and cute why would a guy not take an interest in you? I hav..... I have notest you." said Conner.
Jocelyn shook her head slightly in a no motion. "I want to drop the subject... okay?" she said softly. "I don't want to talk about it okay. I know I sort of brought it up, but I don't want to talk about it." she added letting him know the subject was closed.
Conner leaned back some taken by her reaction. He dropped his head and looked at the table as he cupped his hands in front of him. He placed them on the table. "I am sorry if I upset you no problem" making an apology. "So, can you tell me some of the things you like to do then? ask Conner.
Jocelyn shook her head again. "You couldn't have known... but I just don't want to talk about 'back home' not the best memories." she paused. "I like cooking and baking." she said, "I picked up knitting over the winter. Nothing big like sweaters or anything, just like a hat. That didn't fit right and was sort of lopsided." she added.
"Nice, I know the knitting thing takes time. My mom tried it one time but did not stick with it. Cooking, I am not too good with that." he smiled "but I do like to eat" he said with a laugh. Conner looks past Jocelyn. Hmm.. where are they going?" he mumbled to himself. looking back at Jocelyn "I guess I am the typical guy. I like to watch sports, work on cars really anything mechanical and music. I play the piano. drums, sing, and bass guitar." he said happily.
"I don't think I could ever understand sports." She said. "And you don't need to offer to explain them it's a fruitless endeavor." Jocelyn laughed, "believe me my dad tried plenty to. And it never stuck."
It was great to see her laugh it made Conner relax some from the tense moment that just passed. He could take a sigh of relief that he did not blow it. "Ok fair enough" he replied with a smile. "It's not for everyone my mother is the same way."What type of music do you like or singers?" he asked.
Jocelyn plundered this question for a moment "I like a lot of music." She said "not a huge fan of religious music though, or mumble rap." She joked. "Though my current favorite is Coheed and Cambria. What about you?"
"Rock mostly but most other music too I get I love the more classic rock. 70's 80's mostly Guns N' Roses, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen AC/DC, and Others." he said he pulled out his phone and hit a few apps then showed her the Phone the list had all kinds of stuff everything from Beethoven, bach to heavy metal. "I know it's a lot," he said.
"Oh I also like some musicals, not so much the whole show but songs from them. Cliche I know."
Conner put his phone back in his poker "musicals are cool west side story is a good one. I have helped with some I played the drums and piano for a few. Did some singing in on a musical here my freshmen year fiddler on the roof" replied.
Jocelyn laughed. "I couldn't sing to save my life." she said, "well not well anyway." she added. "I can't sing, can only enjoy and never had the chance to learn to play any interments."
Conner thought for a moment "I would be happy to teach you some stuff drums, piano bass guitar. JD knows guitar and Sax but doesn't tell anyone about the Sax he thinks he is no good I think he is." says Conner.
"Kind offer but I don't really want to. Would have have been nice younger but I don't have anything to prove to anyone anymore." she said. "But don't think we should get into that right now." she said. "Not something most people know about." she said.
Conner just nodded "OK" wow this girl has been through some hard times I will just have to see how this turns out. I don't even know if she even wants to date someone. one step at a time Conner. "so what do you think of our little group?" asked Conner.
She shrugged. "I don't know, everyone seems fine." she said, "I just think I need so more time to get to know them." she said. "I don't know to many people yet." Jocelyn said. "But I'm sure they are fine people." Jocelyn seemed to be fumbling with her words not sure what to say now.
Conner smiled "do you want to have breakfast with me tomorrow, well the group I guess? what I mean is can we meet up for breakfast?" he to stumbling over words. He seems unsure of himself.
Jocelyn shrugged then nodded. "Sure. I wouldn't have anyone else to sit with." she said. "So long as its not a date." she half joked. "I don't think breakfast can really be a date though." she laughed.
he smiles "No date, we just met and I know your not that type. we will just have to see where this goes. friends is nice for now. if that's ok with you?" asked Conner.
Jocelyn nodded again. "It better be fine." she said. "And yeah, not that type. Don't get me wrong I'm not some prude but just gotta met the right person." she said finishing her juice and gathering her things. "And goes without saying, don't mention the pill thing to to many people." she said. "I don't want to have to talk to the teachers about them."
"Pill what Pill I just saw you take a drink it's ok with me. you don't have to worry." replied Conner.
"They are not drugs, just so you know. I just don't want to answer questions with the nurse." she explained, not at all suspiciously. "I guess I'll see you later." she said throwing the plastics in the recycling.
Conner stood to his feet "it was nice talking to you, Jocelyn. don't be a stranger I am around most of the time. I don't bite most of the time." he said with a laugh.
