Memento Mori
Mar regarded her quick return of his pendant with little reaction. He merely put it back around his neck then took a seat in front of her.
"The pendant belonged to the last jedi I captured. She taught me that the light side wasn't something to be crushed or dominated. Showed me... a better path... And for that I condemned her to a fate at the hands of Darth Vader..."
His face twisted at that memory. It wasn't one he liked to remember, or share. Yet he found himself telling this girl.
"I won't lie to you, Serenity. I have done horrible things for The Empire as an Inquisitor. Things I can never forgive myself for. Yet... she did... Even at the end I felt it... I don't know why... It was then I made a promise to try and make what happened mean something more. To help when I can. For her..." He coiled his fingers around the pendant.
"That's why I'm not going to give you back your lightsaber. If you really want it, then you have to earn it. Prove to me you can and it's yours. Giving me back this pendant, that means nothing. It isn't that easy. I'm doing this because you need help, and this is the only way I know how to help you."
