Keeping up with the Jones's
-Dalen Capital, Lower Quarter. Night, 2 DSTR-
[OOC - So, uh, I'm going to do a bit of Gular fighting and then catch up with the events. Sorry guys, just been stressed at work.]
Gularzob's snark had been cut short when the hounds had slowed nearly immediately as they closed in on their target. Hearing Kalena's words about the slums and asking if he was serious, he reached up to one of the magical lanterns and opened it. Reaching his hand in to grasp at the flames, he brought his hand out with a palmful of the blue wisps before speaking, "It does not give off heat, but it is a light that is used to retain night vision. Any one who travels deep within the quarter with natural light will be blinded by their very attempts to see. These are much more gentle on the eyes." Rolling the flame from his palm and around his fingers, he moved it to his left shoulder before settling it down and continuing, "It is also a marker of sorts. Those who venture into our land with natural fire immediately reveal that they are foreign to the area."
Walking behind the dogs, he noticed a large building they were coming up in and recognized it nearly immediately. It was a large slave holding pen that worked closely with many of the gangs in the quarter, including the Emerald Scarves. Realizing too late where they were, he was beginning to turn to ward the others off when the first bolt was fired towards Lafayette. Ducking low behind a thick pillar, he readjusted his grip on his hammer before glancing around the masonry to see how the others reactes. Seeing two men on the fround in addition to Lafayette, he crept around the pillar and stayed in a crouched position as he watched the Scarves come forward. Recognizing the drows' numerical advantage, he moved towards a group that were going towards Kalena.
His move was stopped by two large drow, who stood nearly as tall as Kline and only marginally thinner. Recognizing one of them, he narrowed his eyes before pointing at the sword clutched in the man's hand and speaking, "When.I crafted her, I did not expect her to come to this sort of use." Seeing the drow sneer as he prepared to charge, Gularzob shrugfed his shoulders lazily before speaking, "You have betrayed her honor, so I will be taking her back."
Seeing the other drow lunge forward, Gularzob raised his left hand with the dagger held in a reverse grip. Catching the blade on his dagger, he pushed to the side before bringing the hammer around in a blow destined for the man's head. The blow would have separated his head from his shoulders had the drow not recovered from the parry and put his sword in to block the path. However, the block was not strong enough to fully stop Gular's arm, and therefore the hammer continued far enough to hit the man in the temple with enough force to stagger him backwards.
Turning to face the other drow's attack, Gularzob missed the block and felt the blade make contact with his shoulder. The blade cut the cloth effortlessly, but led him to chuckled deeply as he brought his hand with that hammer up to grab hold of the sword against his shoulder. Seeing the confusion on the drow's face, he spoke in a low voice, "Do you really think I would allow my creations to be used against me? Tule luokseni." There was no mark on his shoulder where the blade had touched him, and it wrestled itself free from the drow's grasp before going to Gular's right hand. Dropping the hammer and taking hold of the sword, he took two steps back to bring them both in front of him.
The now disarmed drow looked at his hand with confusion before drawing a short dagger. The drow with the sword took a step towards Gular before swinging his sword in attacks meant to overwhelm the orc or find his weak points. They were not easily spotted, for Gularzob had focused on defensive fighting, but that meant he would be hard pressed to capitalize on gaps left by the drow. Seeing the drow with the dagger coming around on his right, Gular side stepped to the left as he blocked a sword strike. Maintaining contact with his sword to form a bind, he angled the tip of his sword forward before stepping back and drawing the sword back with him. Slitting the side of the drow's neck open, he stepped out of range of his wild sword strokes before turning his attention to the dagger man.
As the dying man fell to the ground, the other drow took his sword from his hands and held it in his right hand with his dagger in the other. Mimicking his stance with his dagger aimed out, Gular was waiting for the other man to strike when he realized it would not be coming. Setting his jaw, he glared at the man and slashed his sword around towards the man's left shoulder. Seeing him block it with his dagger, he lunged forward to drive his dagger into him, he quickly felt that slapped away as well. Feeling the momentum of the attack swaying as his weapons were blocked, he drove forward and slammed his head into the man's mouth. Driving upwards, he felt the man lift off the ground before falling backwards.
Waiting for the man to fall, Gularzob held the tip of his sword at the manga throat and pressed it in slightly before calling out, "I've got a prisoner if we need one." Glancing around to see the other fights disintegrating as the Emerald Scarves high-tailed it, he looked down to his captive when he noticed a dagger sticking out from his temple. Cursing his bad luck and kicking the man's body, he retrieved his hammer and returned it and his dagger to his bag as he strode toward the others at the door.
He was preparing to look it over for any magical booty traps when Kline broke it down with brute force. Turning his head away, he was more than slightly surprised to see the man standing in one piece when he looked back. He muttered softly, "Seems I overestimated them. This might be easier than initially thought." Walking further into the chamber behind the others and starting down one of the corridors, he glanced over when he saw the wretched souls sitting within the pen. Pinching off a small segment of the flame on his shoulder, he rubbed it over the locking mechanism and said a soft incantation that would be very hard to hear and even harder to understand. It set the flames to a timer of several minutes before it would burn red hot and melt the lock off the door.
Catching up with the others as Kline asked about splitting up, he spoke up, "I don't think it would be good to split up. It would increase the chances of getting lost and the mystery hasnt been solved. Splitting up could leas to mistrust in the other group which could lead to accidental and needless tragedy.
