Deals in the Dark
-Dalen Capital, Grand Theater, Late evening 2 DSTR-
He ran a finger over the rim of his cup as she spoke. “I could get you masses, one will not be a problem. I think the problem is in the idea of what makes a person innocent.” He lifted his finger rom the wine glass, his eyes were on the exposed flesh of her bare leg, as if he were making a point about sin.
Mortality was about hungers and needs. Life and living was about the pleasure that filling those needs gave. A man who had not eaten for a long time found bread all the better, and he had not partaken in some needs in some time, how long had it been. Something about her made him acutely aware of it.
He tried to keep his features calm and relaxed, impassive and cool, but under he could feel currents swelling. She had a primal attraction he could not deny. The way she said desire would have brought him to his knees had he been standing.
He offers her his hand. “You wish to be a partner then I will have your aid. If I get you your souls, you get me what I desire.” He smiled. “Help me and the people I aid, and I will bring you a church full of souls seeking aid.” He was already planning, his mind starting on the details.
The curtain parted and a drow stood there, Verlain, she looked beaten and smelled of gunpowder. “We have it.” Randel knew her as one of Sarx better fighters and thugs, clever and loyal.
Sarx stood. “You brought it here?”
Verlain nodded and Randel stood, offering Celestia a hand. “Well, let us go and see this prize.” There was a crescendo of music and the house lights went down for a change of scene.
The party was led down the hall and to the back of the stage where they wove through the sets and performers all getting ready for the next scene. People were too busy to notice the small party of people heading out into the alley behind the theater.
There a caged wagon sat with the best chained and panting hard. “Well, would blood and hair be what you need to decipher the secrets of her beasts?” He asked Celestia as he walked closer to the cage in awe of the huge mastiff.
