On the Road Again

-Ragodast Outskirts. Late Afternoon, 1 DSTR-

Auriel grimaced behind her visor as she looked at the dying hobo.

"Shall we continue?" Isai asked after walking over the corpse and reconcealing his blade.

"Well, I suppose he asked for it," Auriel mumbled quietly. Straightening her posture and turning to her colleague, she replied clearly, "Yes, that sounds like an excellent idea."

After handing back the second slab of meat (she had held both steaks for Isai during the ultimately-violent exchange), she led the way to the stables and signaled the carriage she had reserved.

"I'm pretending to be a temporary bodyguard for you right now, so it might make sense for you to pay the driver. I'll reimburse you once we start moving," Auriel whispered to Isai as the carriage approached.

Auriel had rented a nice, covered carriage with leather seats for the journey, for she didn't want to spare any expense regarding Isai's comfort. The purpose of this journey was to make amends to the tax collector and get him to move bureaucratic mountains for her, after all. She certainly didn't want him to think that he wasn't appreciated.

When the carriage was close enough, she took the second steak back and gracefully leapt into the carriage. After taking a seat, she rested the steaks in her lap, took a few deep breaths, and waited for Isai to join her.
