Planning Ahead - Falling Behind
Posted byPosted: Oct 13, 2017, 9:16pm
Oruvand was already lagging behind, his stamina kept he going, but not at a pace even similar to the mage speed. As if that was bad enough, the mage suddenly decided to get smart. God's know how, but he somehow summoned a dust storm of some sort. He wasn't expecting it, especially not on the fly, but the sand in his face instantly halted him. The storm, or whatever it was, was short lived, but by the time Oru finished cleaning his eyes, the mage was gone.
He wouldn't be discouraged. No good hunt takes a day. Now that his target was out of sight, he had time to think. First, he had to figure out where the mage was going. He had noticed that the mage was moving in some sort of zigzag pattern to try and throw him off, which meant that he was really going in one direction. He stood, and thought for a second, remembering which way he was facing when chasing the mage. If he remembered correctly, the mage particularly favored...West and Northwest apparently. If he was still doing his zigzag pattern, then he would be heading between West and Northwest. That was the way Oru needed to travel. Keyword is 'travel' rather than 'charge at breakneck speed'.
While jogging, he came across a part of the forest he was familiar with. He hunted actual animals rather than criminals in this forest, and while he hadn't wasted time trying to remember each er and every square foot of it, there where parts he knew particularly well. As stated, this was one of those parts.
After a brief scan of the treeline, Oru noticed that a single tree had a small symbol on it. Upon closer inspection, he noticed a triangle bored into the bark. He smiled, realizing he had put it there.
It was supposed to be the roof of a building. West to North West from here stood an Inn, one he hadn't seen before, that was, until he did. If he was on a hunt and needed a pit stop, the Inn was where he intended to go. The half-elf couldn't run forever, eventually he would have to stop, and it was likely that he would do so at the Inn once he saw it. It was truly a gamble, but one he felt was in his favor.
Make it to the Inn before next dawn, perhaps get a few hours of shut-eye, and then intercept the target. He'd figure out what exactly 'intercept' meant when the time came.
