Employment Opportunities
-Three Days Prior-
Gularzob was standing at the front counter of his store, his elbow braced against the surface and his chin in his hand as he watched a particularly porky man look over the different weapons he had on display. The bastard had been standing there for going on half an hour now just looking over armor that would never cover his girth and weapons he had no chance of wielding appropriately. Gularzob was reaching the end of his patience with the interruption from his forging, but he couldn't leave the man to go work. He had no way of making sure that the man wouldn't leave with his goods.
Bringing his fingers up over his face to scrape down his cheeks, he sprung up from the counter ans planted his palms against the surface before speaking, "As I told you, the longsword is 325 gold and I will not budge on that price. If you cannot afford it, I suggest you buy a dagger, axe, or go to Hungol's shop and get a lousy longsword that won't last you against a toddler with a wooden sword!!"
Instantly regretting his outburst as the man took a step back with fear coating him like a thick syrup, Gularzob brought up a hand in apology before speaking, "Perhaps I can lower the price. You asked for 250, I will meet you at 280. I can't go any lower than that." Seeing the man smirk as he claimed his victory and pulled out his coin purse, Gularzob fought the urge to break the man's neck and throw his corpse into the street.
Accepting the man's payment, he turned his back to reach up to the racks and get the sword when he heard the door open behind him. Groaning at the thought of another customer, he pulled the sword down and called out at the same time, "I'll be with you in a second, please wait." Turning around with the sword, he glanced to the new customer and slightly recognized him. He was Perun, the majordomo of the well known retired assassin Kalena Valade. Handing the sword to the customer, he nodded his thanks as the man took the sword and walked away triumphantly, as if he was already imagining the dragons he would slay with it.
Looking to Perun, he nodded in recognition before speaking, "I would not have expected the latest shoes to have worn away already. Is everythung alright?"
Perun nodded before stepping forward and producing a sealed roll of parchment. Offering it to the Orc, the majordomo spoke, "Mistress Valade has requested your presence at her villa. This parchment will allow you to pass by the Royal Guard with no questions so that you can go to her residence."
Accepting the parchment, Gularzob was preparing to thank the man when he instead turned and walked away. Glancing around to make sure he hadn't missed any customers entering the store, he followed behind the man and locked the doors. He hated to lose a day's worth of forging, but Ms Valade was a caliber of customer that he could not afford to upset and lose the business of. Her influence reached many high places, certain places that would be very beneficial if his name reached.
