The Earth

She agreed. He had not expected her to agree so easily. He expected to have to do a lot more convincing, to have to speak well of Tyreth, to extol his virtues and to praise his name. He had all these things lined up and now she accepted.
He needed a moment to catch his footing. He stood under the willow with her, a lovely sense of being off balance, one he had not had in some time. He knew he had to keep himself ordered and on course, but this sensation of directionless-ness, a free fall, was blissful to the artist in him.
He brought the ship to right, and the gale that has sucked the ground out from under him had passed. “I would like you to do more than loosen him from his ties to the land. I would prefer you make them stronger, tie him faster to them. I would like him to feel the earth, and those who toil in it more.” He told her, what more cruel a curse than to make him feel those he puts to task in his fields. It would make him kinder, or break him, either would work for him.
“I will see you are properly compensated, of course.” He assured her and lifted his hand from her followed by a charming smile. “It is the Cartagan farms, and I would be more than happy to take you out there. When would you have time?”
