*Actionette* Theory of Gravitonity
In the Captain's Office, Phil had only enough time to put in a photo
of Tara and another family photo. Dean, Johnny, Eric and Guinevere
were seated, listening to Phil outline the mission plan.
Dean and Johnny were to pilot a shuttle each, with Eric and Guinevere
on board as the technicians.
"Johnny and Eric, you two have the normal Graviton beam. That means
you must be facing the Hymie ships with the intended wormhole to your
left. Dean and Guinevere, you have the Inverse Graviton beam, and you
need to have the intended destination to your right. The two beams
need to be at exactly 180 degrees, otherwise the ships will be forced
in a different direction, or may not be affected at all." Phil
instructed. "Both Hymie shuttles need to be in position within ten
minutes. I will give the signal when we are ready to use the wormhole
drive. McJohn has prepared it to open a wormhole at the co-ordinates,
so we will need to lead them to the spot, and McJohn will open the
wormhole and you will need to use the graviton beams to force the
fleet into it. Due to the size of the wormhole needed, we will not be
able to keep it open for too long, so you must make sure we get it
right the first time."
"Did you say Hymie shuttles?" Dean asked.
"Yeah. They left a couple behind when the boarded us, I think we must
have taken out enough pilots and warriors so they couldn't take all
their crafts back. McJohn has retofitted the insides so they operate
the same as a starbug."
The airlock control technician started the countdown as Dean revved
his shuttle, only for it to stall. Guinevere tried not to smirk, as
Dean restarted the craft. Then, the airlock doors opened and the
airlock klaxxon sounded, reminiding people of the lack of oxygen
there. Dean put the shuttle in gear and guided it along the tunnel and
through the doors into space, shortly followed by Johnny's craft.
"Okay, let's head to McJohn's coordinates." Dean ordered.
"Yes sir." Johnny responded.
"I've got the fleet on the scanners." Eric announced. "They're right
there where Phil said."
"The bugs are in the zapper, we are nearly close enough to turn on the
juice." Dean said to the BD.
"What?" Phil replied.
"Er, we're near the coordinates, and the Hymies are in position."
Guinevere said.
"Ahh. McJohn, you guys ready?"
"Yes, wormhole in two minutes and counting."
"They haven't yet realised what we are." Eric said.
"We're in position now, graviton beams charging." Dean informed the
observers on the BD.
"Wormhole in thirty seconds."
The four crewmembers in the two retrofitted Hymie shuttles began to
get nervous as they were able to notice the sheer size of the Hymie
fleet that they were about to send through a wormhole to their deaths
in a trinary black hole system.
"Wormhole in ten, nine, eight, seven..."
"Graviton beams fully charged, on standby..."
"Six, five, four, three..."
"Let's do it guys..."
"Two, one..."
"Activating graviton beams!"
A wormhole opened exactly in the right spot, as the gravtion beams
sent a shockwave, pushing the Hymie ships towards the wormhole. A few
ships were sucked through as Eric noticed their graviton beam shaking
and lights flickering.
"I don't know how much longer it will operate!" Eric let everybody know.
"Try and keep it going for another minute! The Hymies are trying to
escape, but their engines are straining and can't break out of our
graviton field." Phil said.
"It's becoming more unstable! I'll have to re-route power from other
systems into the graviton beam to keep it going." Eric started to
sweat profusely.
"Just another fourty seconds and that should be all!" Dean exclaimed.
"I know you guys can keep it going!"
At that moment, the graviton beam in Johnny and Eric's craft exploded,
knocking out Eric.
"We've lost the beam!" Johnny said. "I've got to do something!"
Johnny sealed Eric's suit and pushed him into the airlock. "I'm sorry
mate, but I've got to do this."
"We're down to one beam, and we need to reposition!" Guinevere called out.
McJohn gave Dean instructions to turn the shuttle 15 degrees.
"It's not strong enough!" Dean said. "We've only thrity seconds!"
"I know." Johnny said, as he ejected Eric into the safety of space, as
he raced the craft towards the remainders of the hymie fleet with the
remaining power of the craft.
Free of the full power of the complete graviton field, the last of the
Hymie fleet were able to focus the rest of their weapons on Johnny's
shuttle. He was able to dodge their fire as he race towards the wormhole.
"What are you doing Johnny? Are you nuts?" Dean shouted over the coms.
"Pick up Eric once I've led the remainders of the fleet into the
wormhole. He'll need some medical attention from when the graviton gun
exploded."
"You'll be killed!" Phil yelled. "I don't want to lose anymore of the
crew!"
"I have to do this, or they'll get the Blue Dwarf, and the rest of the
colonies."
He raced past the last of the fleet, and they turned to chase him.
When they realised their mistake, it was too late, as the remaining
graviton beam pushed the last of the fleet and Johnny's shuttle into
the wormhole.
"Five, four, three, two, one." Dean whispered as the wormhole closed.
