As I learned the reason for Cannon's recent sudden outbursts and complete recklessness, I almost felt sorry for the poor man. His wife and daughter were killed somehow in the past few weeks, although the events of their deaths are still unknown to me. I have tried to confront the captain about them, but he has locked himself up in his quarters and refuses to talk to anyone.
Although this tragedy has happened to him, it still doesn't forgive him for being a bad captain. Although he is not the worlds greatest most of the time, these past few weeks have been far worse. Turning his quarters into a shooting range and attacking anyone with an unlicenced shotgun he keeps onboard. Most of this was partly due to the virus which affected pretty much everyone on the ship, but I can't help but wonder if the problem lies deeper than that. Cannon definately had some deep-down hostile feelings, this was clearly shown when the virus solidified these feelings into a huge beast of some sort.
We are now heading back to the Jupiter mining corporation HQ orbital station for a full refit and shore leave. I have a feeling that the corporation will have to discuss Cannon's competancy as a captain, maybe giving him time off to mourn the loss of his dear ones, or maybe court-marshalling him for his actions. If this does come to a court-case, the deaths of Ventrite, Banshee and Cauty may be questioned. I can't say what will likely happen, but at least the crew will be able to spend a few days back on Earth as we will be pretty close.
Anyway, I'll have to keep this short- I've noticed my first officer's logs are taking up 20 more gigabytes of information on the Blue Dwarf's computer than they should!

Cmdr Niples put down the personal microphone used when making journal entries, and relaxed into deep thought for a few minutes.
After that he washed some water into his eyes, changed into more comfortable clothes and walked down to Owen Numan's bar. He hoped something exciting was going on down there.
