Hidden Strength
Who: Jenny, Wildflower, Trisees
Where: Hanging Ten
-------------------------------
<snip>After a minute or so of struggling, a part of the ledge
Trisees foot was firmly placed on gave way, and trisees fell,
pulling Jenny with him. A rock jutting out of the cliff at a
convenient place was all that Jenny could grab onto as they hung
there, trisees arm around Jenny's waist, and his other arm around
Wildflower, who hung onto the time drive.
"And thats how we got in this mess" Trisees stated, slightly ticked
off.
"ahh... yeah..." Wildflower conceded, feeling rather ashamed.
<end snip>
"Satisfied? You infernal woman," said Trisees angrily, carefully
eyeing the long drop below them. He sighed and wondered how on earth
they were going to work their way out of this one.
"Anyone have any idea how on earth we're going to escape this?"
"well, if i had my gear with me... and if it could carry three
people... i usually have some grappling cable on me" Jenny said,
holding onto the cliff with all her strength. "But thats not
helping..." she added, "sorry..."
"Gear...gear...where did we put all the stuff?" asked Wildflower.
"There's a little on my back, I think," replied Trisees.
"i would grab it, but i'm kinda busy keeping us alive" Jenny said,
still holding on with all her strength. "I can't hold all of us
with one hand." she said, trying to think of another way to get back
up.
"Wildflower you insipid fool, can you reach?" asked Trisees.
"I am holding something," replied Wildflower glaring and pointing at
the drive with her eyes. "Besides, do you really feel it necessary
to insult me every which way?"
"Seeing as you are the entire reason for us being in this
predicament and every other I've ever been in, YES. You are a human
with the destructive force of a tornado!"
Wildflower huffed.
"So now what?"
"Arguing isn't gonna get us out of this!" Jenny yelled, "Lawrence,
just shut the smeg up about how this is wildflowers fault, and help
me figure a way out of this mess!!!!" she added, still yelling,
almost at the top of her voice.
A few seconds passed while jenny calmed down... "sorry..." she said.
"I'm totally stuck," muttered Wildflower.
Trisees, furious, said nothing but thought hard. They hung there
for several minutes more until a crackin noise above them all
garnered their attention.
"Err, what was that?" asked Wildflower
"Not good..." Jenny said, "I think this path is giving way..." she
added, watching a pebble fall past her.
"hold on tight..." she said, and tried to shimmy along the path,
away from the cracking noise. As she moved, a clump of path fell
from beneath her fingers, her arm flailed for a second, before she
tried to get another grip.
As her arm swung, thoughts flew through her head.
'I'm too young to die'
'my child is too young to die...'
'i.... have a child....' her eyes glazed over for a second.
Trisees looked up, stunned, eyes open as Jenny started breathing
heavily and the ground next to them began to drop. As if she were
hercules herself, she was pulling the three of them up. She was
actually pulling all three up towards the path.
"How are you doing this?!" asked Wildflower, as Jenny, eyes shut,
grunted and strained.
She hung there, holding them up, her legs still dangling over the
cliff for a full minute, her mind focusing on one thing alone -
Saving her unborn child.
"Don't just hang there you bastards, get off me!" she said, lifting
one knee onto the path, and almost throwing the two below her onto
the safety of a floor.
Trisees pulled and strained and pulled himself over onto the edge,
taking Wildflower's stretched out hand and pulling her up
afterwards. As they got onto the path there was another loud rip
and the path Jenny was holding onto came away from the cliff,
leaving her hanging in middair. Her eyes widened and she realised
there was nothing keeping her stable.
Suddenly she felt something strong grab her arms and she looked up
to see Trisees's hands holding her hands and pulling her back onto
the ledge.
She looked up to him, and smiled. "Nice catch" she complimented,
and stood up on the ledge. she tried to hug him for saving her, but
her arms just wouldn't do anything. So instead she smiled.
"thanks" she said, "get out of here?" she suggested, as their next
plan.
"Along this ledge and back to the midget, then from there, back to
BD and a little liberal stealing of our dimension drive should sort
everything out," replied Trisees.
"Remind me, what are we using this things for?" asked Jenny.
"We're rescuing Shakespeare," said Trisees, turning away.
"Shakespeare?" Jenny asked, not having been on the Dwarf long enough
for her to know about him.
"where is he?" she asked. trying to get her arms working again, but
it was as if they had been torn off... nothing wanted to work.
Trisees stormed off down the ledge away from a confused Jenny and a
sighing Wildflower.
"Don't mind him," she apologised. "Trisees and Shakespeare have a
little history. Trisees doesn't like him, but Shakespeare gave his
life to save him. Trisees never really told us why, or how, just
that Shakespeare and his girlfriend died saving Trisees. Trisees
had been nothing but horrid to both of them, and they making such a
scrifice really changed him. He vowed he'd return them"
"Why the dimensional drive then?"
"Something to do with an Ochre coloured version of our ship. That's
all I know."
"ohh.... fair enough... but that doesn't explain why he's nasty
about it..." Jenny said, "but we really should catch up with him..."
she added, and sped up.
"I've never heard about an ochre dwarf.... was it not recorded
anywhere?" she asked.
"Apparently, it only happened to him. He, Shakespeare and the girl
all got captured, taken aboard somehow. I don't know if he's told
anyone more than that. He doesn't talk to people much, and if he
does he's usually angry. I've no idea why he's that way."
"You know," continued Wildflower musing. "I don't know if anyone
does. I think he might just be lonely."
They watched the scientist increase the gap between them before
hurrying after him.
