Introducing the resident Private Eye.
Who: Eric Lustbader
Where: Ganymede
When: Flashback Sequence - when the BD was there.
Eric unlocked the door to his office, and sniffed. Something smelled
wrong. He yanked his door open and dived behind the wall in the
corridor of the seedy motel. He heard gunfire. He got up and ran
outside, but not before pressing a button on his keychain. He
hadn't used it before, especially not while in his office, because
it set off a trap - blowing up his office and whatever and whoever
is in it.
He knew who it was - a Ganfia hitman. (Ganfia is the local Ganymede
Mafia). That stupid bent cop set him up.
'Oh well,' he thought, 'time to get off this lousy rock.'
Now the Ganfia will have him high on their hitlist, and the force
will be none too happy with him either, due to the news coverage
this will be bound to attract.
Eric ran to the fire escape and slid down the bannisters, taking a
Scruncheon (Shock Truncheon) out of his coat to whack any Ganfia
cronies who may have been waiting there. Fortunatley he found none,
but he fell off the bannister with half a floor to go to the road.
Landing softly in a garbage bin, Eric got out, remarkably clean.
This was because it wasn't a real garbage bin - he had placed it
there for this purpose, and placed special matts that would easily
break someone's fall.
He hit a brick on the motel wall his his Scruncheon and a trick wall
rose up, revealing a classic 2063 Austin Healy convertable. Eric
jumped into it and sped away from the building, as police, fire and
ambulance services arrived in wailing tones.
Eric opened a secret panel in his car and removed a wad of cash as e
pulled into the space docks. He looked at the list of vessels that
were hiring, but couldn't find any. One, however, looked suitable.
The Blue Dwarf, a mining ship, seemed to be taking anybody. He drove
his car to the cargo entrance of the BD, got out and ran to the
personnel entrance. He dumped some cash on the desk of the
Recruitment Officer and hurriedly filled out a form.
"I've got some cargo." said Eric. "I hope that covers it."
Eric ran back to his car, leaving behind a stunned Recruitment
Officer and drove his car into the cargo deck.
Who: Eric Lustbader, Miranda Bell
Where: Parrots Bar
When: Present time.
"And that's how I ended up on this ship." Said Eric.
"That's a nice story." Miranda replied, only half listening as she
had been busy operating the bar all day due to Efof being elsewhere.
"It looks very quiet in here today." Eric said, looking around from
his drink.
"I think something important is happening." Miranda said,
thinking. "Most of my important customers are absent, down on the
surface or something. It's been a bit hush-hush lately."
"Oh. I haven't been paying much attention lately - I think I've been
moping around lately - I'm not used to having nothing to do."
A few customers walked out.
"Well, nice meeting you Eric, but you're the only customer left. I
may as well pack up now."
Miranda started to clean the bar, and instructed some of the kitchen
staff to clean the tables. Next, Miranda started to tally the till.
"Oh my. Let me double check." Miranda seemed alarmed.
"What's the matter?" Eric asked.
"I think some money's missing." She replied. "I'm fifty dollars
short!" She exclaimed as she finished double checking the till.
Eric's eyes lit up. "Let me help you!" Eric nearly jumped up off his
seat. "This is right up my alley." Eric's eyes shone with purpose.
"Oh, it's alright." Miranda said. "I found it. It was till in my
pocket. I think I've been working too long. Oh well Eric, I had
better get to bed, because I'm working again all day tomorrow."
Eric looked very disappointed again and sighed.
"Oh, it's okay. I'm getting paid alot for all this overtime,
however I'm too busy to spend any of it!"
Eric walked out of the bar as Miranda finished locking up and went
straight to her quarters - almost. 'I always miss that turn,'
Miranda muttered to herself.
