"hmm? no, i was just thinking out loud, Chris Harris yes? used to
serve on the White dwarf?" She said, pulling up her research from
the back of her mind. She had records of almost everyone onboard.
Phil was the only one she didn't know, as he had disappeared before
they moved to England.
"how did you know that? i thought JMC files were secure!" he thought
out loud, Kanako just smiled at him, and nodded.
"they are." she said, before turning back to Jack.
"buy me a drink." she said.
"fine, but only one, you're 18 now, you can buy your own." he said,
getting her an Archers.

Chris sat and stared at Kanako, wondering who she was talking to ,
and also wonderin why the hell she knew so much about the entire
space corps crew. Kanako started drinking, and caught Chris in the
corner of her eye... staring. "yes?" she said, smiling slightly.
"Er...nothing, just one small question...Who the hell are you?"
"did i not say? I'm... i mean, Jacks my big brother"
"And your name?"
"Kanako, no, i'm not British, i come from Japan, i moved there a
long time ago"
She sat there, and undid a few buttons on her shirt, but as she was
wearing a dress underneath, the barkeeps were denied.
"a bit warm in here" she said, taking another drink.
"Indeed, whos for another pub, i dont like this place?"
"why not, Jack, you coming?" she said, jumping off her stool, and
pulling on Jacks arm.
They began to leave, Jay and Dean joined them.
"where we off to?" Jay asked, looking like he'd had a bit too much
to drink.
"that pub was too crowded, and hot" Kanako pointed out. Jack
stepped back to the bar.
"Melissa, joining us?" he asked, smiling more than he had done in a
very long time, unfortunately, no one else was there to witness it.
"Erm...Jack, can I have a word?" Chris said, pulling jack to one
side.
"sure, whats on your mind?"
"A PRIVATE word"
"oh, ok." Jack said, and turned to Kanako. "back in a tick." at
which she let go of him, but watched him walk off. "Kuro, go listen
in." She said, before walking outside to wait.
"She says your relation?" said Chris "Shes mad and she looks nothing
like you!"
"she's only a step sister. my father married her mother when we
were both kids." he said, "and don't forget, Phoenix fire changed me
a bit."
"Ah, yes...Maybe i should tell you about this..."
"hmm? about what?" he said, and at that point, John sub-vocalised to
him.
"Chris was brought back to life by Phoenix Fire, but keep it secret."
Jack turned back to chris. "ahh, i gotcha, welcome to the living
world."
"How the bloody hell do you do that sub-vocalising?"
"we have Nano's, they allow us to keep tracks of each other, right
now, only me, amber and john have them. you want in?"
"Yeah!" he said, enthusiastically.
"ok, we'll get you some as soon as we get back to the 'dwarf." he
said, then sub vocalised again. "Severn, can you get a shot of
nano's ready for when we get back?" then he turned back to
chris. "oh yeah, Severns go them too." he began to walk away, but
then turned back
"but i warn you, they make you feel like shit for a day or two while
your body tries to kill them. changing the subject slightly, you
know, your swordsman skills weren't too bad on that pirate ship, you
want a good one?"
"Ok, erm, well, i dunno what to say, i'd love to please, if you
don't mind."
"hehe, no need for that." he said, and un-clipped his sheath,
handing it over. The gunblade sat in it perfectly.
Chris gawped in amazement, "No way Jack, i cant take that, if you
could get me another one, but i wouldn't take this one"
"no worries, i can get another." he said, forcing the sword into
Chris's hands. "its not as if i'm going to need it on the way back
to the dwarf."
"You keep this one, ill have the other one, this one means too much
to you" said chris as he thrust the sword back into Jacks arms.
"woah, that phoenix fire really works." Jack said, as chris pushed
against Jacks arms. "if you're sure, you'll get one tomorrow."
"positive" smiled Chris, as Jack returned a smile for the first time
in a long while.
Jack clipped the sword back on his back, and began to walk to the
door. as they left, Kanko instantly jumped back onto Jacks arm, and
Kuro filled her in on what was said.
"Jack, one last thing, why the hell does your step sis keep talking
to herself?" chris asked, as they walked along the streets of New
York.
"hmm? oh... that... i don't know. she always says she's just
thinking out loud."
"How odd, anyway, for another pub?"
They began walking, looking for another pub, Jack managed to pull
away from Kanako, and stepped alongside Melissa.
"so..." he said, a bit sheepishly. "umm... you know any good pubs
round here?"
"Erm, yeah, the Black Dwarf, sounds like a ship but its just over
there, lovely little pub" said Melissa as she eyed him, obviously
having second thoughts about the man she at first wasn't
particularly glad to meet
"cool, i can see a wetherspoons logo on the wondow, good choice!"
Jack said, impressed with her knowledge of the area.
She turned to him and grinned and looked deep into his eyes. And he
was suprised to see out of the corner of his eye, Chris on a mobile
phone, when her daughter was obviously very *involved* to say the
least
The group entered the small pub, surprisingly for a wetherspoons, it
was a bit empty, everyone walked up to the bar, Jack sat there, and
was surprised to see a girl either side of him... Melissa pulled up
a seat next to Jack, and her hand came to rest upon his. Jack
gulped, and felt a bit warm... but could do nothing about her hand
laying on his own. "what are you drinking?" he managed.
Kanako, on the other side, was chatting quietly to Kuro, but could
hear and see what was going on. A slight anger built up inside
her. "no, he's mine." she said to herself.
"Archers Aqua please" she smiled at Jack,
"Hey, what do you think you're doing, he doesn't like you whoever
you are" shouted Kanako across to Melissa
Jack turned to Kanako. "what are you doing?" and got up, pulling
Kanako away. "you're my sister, leave my social life alone." he
said, before going back to Melissa. "Sorry about that." he said,
and bought her the drink.
-------later, after a few drinks, and much talking, don't want to
bore you with the specifics------
On the way back to the dwarf, Jack and Melissa took the lead,
closely followed by Chris, who was once more on the phone, at the
next crossroads, he put the phone down, walked across the street,
and returned to the group with Emma Bonney Roberts.
By this time, the sun had set, and the city was lit by the street
lamps. "well, i don't know about you guys, but i'm not much for
clubbing. I might just go back to the Dwarf." Jack said, and turned
his head to Melissa. "umm.. would you... like a coffee?... or
something?" he asked.
"I'd love to" she said as she turned to her stepfather, "I'm gonna
call it a night dad, ok, i'll see you tomorrow".
"Ok," smiled Chris, "another word please Jack?"
"sure." he said, smiling more than ever before
"Her favourite band is any kind of rock" said Chris as he handed
Jack a CD containing the greatest rock hits man had ever known, and
severaly chick flicks as well. "Use it to avail" said Chris "I gota
love you and leave you" he chuckled, winking at the same time, and
finding Emma gripping his hand ever so tightly.
"phew.. thought there was going to be more than that!" he said, "c
ya tomorrow." He said, placing the CD in his pocket. Then everyone
split up. Jay and Dean broke off, undoubtedly hitting the clubs.
Kanako followed Jack and Melissa for a while, talking to Kuro.
"even if we're not related by blood, a sister is still a sister."
she said to the floating cat. "He'll never see me as anything more
than that."
"you knew that for years. yet you still persued, why give up now,
meow?" the cat replied, and they continued to follow them.
Emma and Chris seperated outside Emma's quarters, and Chris, walked
the long way back to his own, passing Jacks room, and made it just
in time to see a bit of a dress disappear into the door, he grinned
to himself, tapped in the code his door and was out like a light, as
im pretty sure Jack wasn't.
