OOC- Noobs caution!

Hello everyone, I think something has to be said about some posts of
late, listen up all of the newest members especially.
Here on Blue Dwarf we are very relaxed about how you write your
posts, but i've seen plenty lately that arent exactly clear to read,
or clear to understand what is going on. So here are a few outlines
i'm laying down for the newbies, to try and prevent confusingly
written posts.
I've seen quite a few replies to emails, and although this is
completely normal and acceptable- it is sometimes very unclear to
distinguish between the original post you are replying to, and what
you have added. So make sure when your writing a reply you dont
write your bit near any side arrow things like this >
>
>
...or it just looks like what you've written is an old depreciated
email.
In fact its probably best if you are replying to a post, get rid of
all the old message, and just include a small section of it for
recap- to show you are continuing on from that section. Like this
for example:
<<snip>>
Keto fired off several shots at Nightcrawler. 'Protect me
my midget minions!' several tb's raced infront of Nightcrawler and
took the shots for him, each exploding into several million pieces.
He wheeled towards Keto as fast as he could. Once within 2 meters
Nightcrawler lunged at Keto and clamped down on his arm.
<<end snip>>
Then also, for clarity. It really helps if you write who you are
writing as (as we cant always remember who's email address goes with
which character), where s/he is, and when the post is happeneing-
just so that we know if you're writing exactly after the last event,
or maybe the day after, or maybe you are recapping if the plot moved
on without you. I hate pointing fingers but for an example see posthttp://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/JMC_Blue_Dwarf/message/8671 by
nightcrawler. When I saw this I really didnt have a clue what was
going on, is it a post? it has no speech marks or grammar, or was it
a personal email nightcrawler sent to the group by mistake?
Please everyone if you do want to write a comment to the group, make
sure you state OOC in the subject. this means your writing out of
character, and as yourself, rather than a game post.
Also, I want to talk about short posts. Quick and snappy can be good
because we dont want to have to write about every boring thing our
characters do, and if we dont have time then fine, but i've not been
too happy about seeing some really short posts lately that dont
really achieve much per post, and its the same people writing very
short lots of short posts all of the time. Why not put them all
together and make more of a comprehensive story?
Try and make each post to the group something worth reading, I want
everyone to have fun writing a short story each post, then people
will enjoy reading them much more. And if people enjoy reading your
stories, then they will enjoy writing and joint-posting with you,
and we'll all get on better and have much more fun!
Not a harsh word, but I thought something had to be said because
i've not had as much fun reading posts lately. If we take more care
it will get better again. We're a great group and have had some
absolutely brilliant posting that is definately worthy of publishing
I reckon, lets not let it slip now guys and gals!
