Who: Amber, Keats, Others
Where: Places
When: Meh
Amber sat in the corner of the pilots lounge. She didn't know where
she was she remembered that Jay was usually around here but he wasn't
here now.
"Uncle Jaaaay?" She yelled again, her voice seeming surprisingly
childlike.
Keats stood up and hauled himself out of the VR chamber where the
Endymion was taken for tests. Severn seemed calm and composed, he
probably expected what was about to happen. Keats walked forwards,
laughed, and slogged him in the face, leaving what promised to be a
very nice shiner. He stormed out feeling... very thirsty... Tears
rolled down Ambers face.
"I wanna go home." She said curling herself up into a ball in one of
the chairs.
Keats mutterd to himself and stormed off, several people, who knew
what he was like in a temper, wisely sidestepped in the corridor,
avoiding eye contact. One person, who was new to the ship, and didnt
catch on soon found himself flung through a doorway and crashing
through a pool-table, cracking the slate.
'I... REALLY need a drink...'
Amber was suddenly struck with an idea, something she remembered her
mum saying to her ages ago, she told Amber to ask Holly anything.
"Holly" Amber asked the floating head.
"Yea dude?" He said
"Where's my mummy?" Amber asked. The head surpressed a laugh.
"Dr. Keto's office."
He said and vanished off the screen. Keats walked up to parrotts,
and, finding the doors open, closed them carefully, before flinging
them aside. The already icy murmur murmured a little more
focused. 'Barman, Pint Glass and this weeks ration' 'But youve had it
already!' Keats shot him a glance. The Barman pulled out a petrol
canister and carefully poured out a pint full of its contents. Keats
grabbed his quicky and a funnel and drained the glass into the
hipflask before walking out again and towards his quarters. The turbo
lift doors opened and Amber got in, she pressed the button for the
level the medi-bay was on and the lift jolted off. Keats pressed the
lift call button. And again before he punched it. He fumed as the
doors opened. However, what he saw did the work of 4 hours of Yoga, a
long warm bath and 5 valiums.
'Wha.. A... Amber...?!'
Amber looked at the person as he said her name.
"Who are you?" She asked scared. "Mummy told me not to talk to
strangers."
'St.. Stranger?'
Keats looked bewildered as the lift doors attempted to close on him.
It wouldn't give up and just sat there moving backwards and forwards
against Keats.
'I'm no stranger.. Hell I mean...'
Keats trailed off. Was this one of those female test things they
sprung on innocent boyfriends, then cried no-matter what the result.
Keats bit his lip.
"I wanna go home."
Amber mumbled, moving away from Keats and sitting in the corner.
Keats blinked. Last time he saw her, she was shooting him up in the
Demon, now she seemed to not recognise him at all! Plus, something
else was different.
'Ummm, well, you want to go to your quarters, yeah?'
She looked up at Keats puzzled and shook her head.
"Don be silly. I live with my mummy and daddy."
There was something DEFINATLY wrong there, Keats knowledge on women
wasn't great, but he knew that no-one over the age of 14 called there
parents anything ending in 'y'.
'Okay.... umm... il err, il press the button for there level yeah?'
Keats brain had packed up, taken a train out, and was sunbathing on a
sunny beach now.
She frowned, but this odd man was wearing the same uniform as Jay.
"You know Uncle Jay?" she queried testing him.
'Know him? He's my Sme... Blo... Dam... abstractly humorous boss, you
know that tho...'
She shook her head.
"I said I don know you. Press the button." She demanded.
What little matter was left that controlled John now had oozed out of
his ear, he blindly flicked the switch and took a step inwards, the
doors finally closed. It was silent for a moment.
'Ummm.... Your are Amber yeah... not her twin sister that I didn't
know about or something come here to freak me out?'
Keats was pulling at straws, and finding them to not only be loose
but holding up a large rock.
She giggled.
"No silly! I don have a sister! I have a brother! Rufie!"
She giggled again. Keats turned that over in his mouth.
'Rufie... Rufie... hmmm...' He stared blankly.
'THATS IT! I mean, this is my floor here!'
Keats turned around, pressed the emergency stop, opened the door
manually and stepped out into the open lift shaft accidentally.
Luckily, he grabbed a wire after only a meters fall. Amber screamed
and began to cry pressing herself further back into the corner. The
strange man had jumped out of the lift. Keats grunted, his left hand
still hadn't healed, and he was sure it would take a bit longer now.
'Ummm, don't worry, I'm... err, this is how I usually get around!'
He strained himself across to another wire and pulled himself onto a
ledge, yep, he knew it, he really had bad luck with lifts. In Amber's
brain there was a battle going on her body had located the nanos and
had sent out a horde of white cells to combat the invaders. Amber
rocked backwards and forwards not knowing what to do. The nanos
noticed the incoming white cells too late, their obsession with the
alien thing in their hosts brain was about to become their downfall.
As the white cells swarmed in and started to battle the nanos Amber
collapsed onto the floor.
'I'm Ok! don't worry, I'm going to try and jump over to you!'
Keats readied himself, and lunged forwards to the door. It was a good
jump, and would have gotten him in if the lift hadn't started up
again. His fingers missed the lift by inches, and grasped the now
mobile wires. He groaned and hung on as the lift carried on going to
its destination. It was a fierce battle, many white cells were lost.
Eventually however the nanos surrendered to the might of the white
cells and settled down, no more havoc. They repaired the damage they
had caused to the alien thing. Amber groaned and woke up, remembering
what had happened, but not why. She guessed it must have been the
nanos. She hurried over to the edge of the lift and offered Keats her
hand. Keats looked up, a head appeared, the hair being blown down as
the lift accelerated. They were going close to 60mph. He had to
shout.
'DONT WORRY! IM O-KAY! JUST SIT BACK DOWN!'
He closed his eyes, it probably wasn't a good idea to reveal his
motion sickness troubles. Sighing she grabbed his arm and pulled him
into the lift.
"Heh, that was fun." she said
"The nanos have settled down now I think." She added
Keats was pale. He waved about slightly, and vomited out of the still-
open shaft and wondered how long it would take to hit the floor. He
wiped his mouth and turned back to Amber, who looked normal enough.
'Do you know who I am?'
Amber nodded and Keats felt his knees sag as he fell forwards in a
half hug half collapsing procedure. Amber smiled and hugged him back.
"You know, I do kinda like you."
She smiled at Keats, putting her previous feeling behind her. Keats
smiled back before setting up camp once again on Ambers shoulder
"And I REALLY like you, except when you try and kill me...'
She laughed and kissed him on the cheek.
"Why do these things always happen in lifts with us?"
John smiled a long smile of someone who knew that he was happy, even
if i was only for a second, but he was happy.
'I suppose its just good luck within bad luck' he held her a bit
longer before the doors opened revealing a long corridor home to Phil
and Tara's room.
