A Feeling

possessions," announced Cerebrum smugly.
"Isn't that one of my ointment bottles?"
"Okay, so $£100 would do."

“You know,” Cerebrum mused, as he examined the unconscious
clone. “I’ve got a feeling that this isn’t Jay Chrysler.”
“Oh, whatever gave you that idea?” Keto asked. “The fact that he
attacked us, the fact that he was even more incoherent that Chrysler
usually is, the fact that we saw a dozen of them, or how about the fact
that he’s got a bloody big poison stinger coming out of his back?”
“Yes, those were exactly the reasons why I don’t think it’s the
real Chrysler. You figured it out too?”
“Gah! Is your ability to notice the obvious part of your
training?” Keto exclaimed, exasperated.
“Yes, it is, actually,” replied Cerebrum. “Other people, when
investigating, like to concentrate on small, subtle clues and use them
to figure out what happened. I prefer to work on the large obvious
clues.”
“Gah!” Keto moaned again, still in exasperation.
At which point another Jay clone, this one a normal human,
walked into the room, his finger in his ear. “Weapons fire in the
medibay, don’t be absurd, we’ve got the armory under our control.”
A laser pistol materialized in Cerebrum’s hand and he stuck it
the clone’s face. “Hey Keto, I just remembered. As a hardlight hologram,
I can just create weapons for myself,” he said.
“Impossible,” the clone replied, freezing in place as he stared
down the barrel of the laser pistol. “Holograms aren’t allowed to
materialize energy weapons.”
“So it’s a good thing that I’m not an ordinary hologram, am I?”
Cerebrum asked, rhetorically. “I’ve got special programming because I’m
an ASSHOLE.”
“Yes, we know you’re an asshole,” said the clone, unable to
resist.
“Ha ha, I bet you think you’re funny, eh?” Cerebrum stated, and
then he pulled the trigger on his laser pistol several times, melting
the clones head. “Laugh this one off!”
