Mercifully for everyone, the effect of the John Wayne ray wore off quite
fast, and Mark decided that, instead of being in the front as they stormed
the castle, he would cower towards the back.
Then he started hearing voices.
"Is anyone else hearing a distress call in their minds?" he asked.
"No."
"Huh. I suppose that's my superpower, then. What a rip off!"
"Never mind that," Alota said, "what distress call?"
"There's a crippled ship somewhere near here sending out a general mayday.
Only one survivor, apparently."
