Tarring And Feathering? Meep
<< SNIP >>
> The intercom on Keto's desk suddenly beeped. "Doctor, there's a mob
> outside that wants to see you. They've got a barrel of tar and a
> bag of feathers.
> Should I let them in?"
<< END SNIP >>
"Wait one moment please," replied Keto into the intercom, before
flicking the mute button.
"Since when have you had a receptionist?" frowned Cerebrum.
"Since Wildflower annoyed me the last time," replied Keto
quickly, "Look, what are your plans?"
"Get back to the ship, secure my offices, enlist your help and then
retreat there to safety."
"Uh huh. And tell me, now that we are surrounded by a mob with tar
a feathers..."
"Three out of four isn't bad, I think you'll find," sniffed
Cerebrum haughtily, "And besides, my mimes will be here to help us
before long."
"The door is voice activated," sighed Keto.
"We're in trouble."
"Not really," replied Keto, "They can't get in here, I can
quarantine-seal the medibay to prevent even a microbe getting in or
out, and there are enough edible ointments in here to keep us alive
for a long time."
"So what you're saying is, either we try and crawl through the
extremely hazardous air vents on a ship crawling with deranged,
infected, immoral psychopaths, or we spend a few days locked in the
medibay together?"
The two looked at each other.
<< Thirty seconds later... >>
"They don't make these vents for easy access, do they?"
"Only for air," murmured Keto.
"I take it you're not going to inform the medibay staff in the main
room of this rather hasty exit?"
"They're a liability," stated Keto, "And besides, they'll find out
soon enough when they eventually get the idea to enter my office.
Which, knowing them, could take a very long ti..."
Keto was cut off as something grabbed his ankles and dragged him
backwards out of the vent, narrowly missing a grab for Cerebrum's
ankle, who just glanced back and shrugged.
"You can't just abandon us!" snapped Wildflower as she hauled Keto
back into his office, "You've got patients to look after!"
"I've got tarring-and-feathering to avoid!" riposted Keto.
"I hate to interrupt," lied Cerebrum from the vent, "But I just
thought I should point out that with this air vent wide open and a
crowd of infected people outside, there's a very good chance that
whatever virus it is could be floating into the medibay right now."
