OOC - Say, where\'d the big hamster go? (Well, it *feels* like hell...)
Sorry about my sudden disappearance folks! But, sometime about mid
week last week, things in my RL went from fairly ok to bad luck
ridden with a vegenance. To start things off, while I was attempting
to perform what I thought was going to be a fairly routine game
install with my newly purchased 'Neverwinter nights' game; something
with my 1 yr old voodoo video card went on the fritz, Depositing me
in blank computer screen land, effectively taking me off the net. So,
I try to take this setback in stride, and started going about getting
everything back into working order again on my pc when my significant
other, Jen calls and informs me that the ford Taurus seems to be
spraying steam out of it's upper radiator hose, and she wants to get
it fixed.
"When it rains, it pours..." I mutter to myself, commenting on my
lousy streak of luck, and taking some time out to go do the higher
priority car repair. Ok, with a new hose installed, I went back
troubleshooting my blank screen problem, but wound up finding that I
need a new video card. Since it was late at night at this point, I
had to put off wrapping this problem until the next day when a store
would be open.
But, on the following morning, fate had some more things planned for
me - Jen calls me early in the morning, and informs me the Ford quit
on the way to work, apparently there was something else wrong with
it, So could I give her & her friend shannon a ride to work? I head
out to do that, and in the meantime, shannon has an auto mechanic
friend of her's look at it, who notes that the radiator had cracked,
probably because it couldn't withstand the pressure with the new
(nonleaky) hose that was recently replaced, which he says sometimes
happens... But he can replace it for cheap, if I pay for the parts.
But, I think it's going to be a little tight on my bank account with
having to pick up a new video card in addition to that, so I check
the account's balance, and note I'm doing surprisingly good - in
fact, it seems high. As if my credit card payment hadn't been
deducted yet, so I call & check with my credit card company, and they
claim everythings fine.
So feeling assured that everything is okay, I go ahead and pay for
fixing the radiator & video card. And as I get home to start
installing my new card, I get a call from the office, apparently
something went awry for one of my co-workers, a company owner is
really gung ho to get it fixed pronto... So I set my video card aside
again, and take some time off of my vacation to work on it. And when
I get back home in the evening, Jen & shannon explain to me the
problems that the mechanic is having with replacing with radiator,
who needs some additional parts; so I spend the rest of the night
running around looking for car parts.
And on the following day, I go to a dentist appointment and stop off
at a gas station for some something to eat and put some gas in the
car. But the attendant tells me that my bank card won't take the
charge. "WTF?!?" I think in surprise, and start scrounging around my
glove compartment for my emergency cash to pay the guy, and
immediately headed home to call up the bank and find out what hell is
going on. Apparently - my bank funds were overdrafted, by several
hundred dollars, and one of recent transactions listed was from the
very credit card company I spoke too earlier. Since it was the
weekend, I knew I couldn't get this sorted out any further until
monday.
So I went back to fixing my first problem, and was able to get the
Video card installed, and played some neverwinter nights (Finally!) -
which happily, lightened my mood a little. (Strange considering this
game seemed pretty depressing to Jen!)
But my bad luck wasn't over yet - I barely get in the door at work
when I'm told that I've got ton of computer problems already waiting
for my attention in the queue. And my supervisor swings by and
quickly informs me that a co-worker has been let go, forcing me to
take up some slack, AND that I should begin the preparations for our
building move, plus have a new win 2k server built and *ready* by
friday for the CFO - AND would I help out his outside consultant who
was brought in diagnose the accounting software problem while I was
at it? And, Oh yeah, a co-worker who was using my pc while I was out
claims my pc is messed up. (Talk about hearing my nearly all of my
freetime go whistling out the window in one quick shot...)
So there's my explaination thus far, in the meantime, I'll try to
catch up a post when I get another free moment or two.
